Harris’ Song of the Week: Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson (feat. Bruno Mars)

Mark Ronson isn’t exactly a household name. As he approaches his 40th birthday, he has teamed up with Bruno Mars to raise bring himself to the next level. As early as 1997, Ronson was producing records for artists like Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Christina Aguilera and Adele. His big break came in 2006 when he teamed up with an unknown artist named Amy Whinehouse and created one of the better albums of that decade in Back To Black. He went on to win three Grammys for that album including Record and Producer of the Year.

He returned in 2013, working with Bruno Mars on his Grammy Award winning album Unorthodox Jukebox and now the team is back with a Mark Ronson single. This song, as the title suggests, is an old school funk number that makes you remember why you fell in love with Bruno Mars’ style back in 2010 when Doo-Wops & Hooligans was released (credit cynthia). This song is upbeat and full of horns, the way any great funk song should be.

With 2015 less than two weeks away, Ronson’s single is the perfect New Years Eve song and foreshadows Uptown Special, his fourth studio album which comes out on January 26th, 2015. For now, check out “Uptown Funk” and add it to your holiday playlists immediately.
