Movie Trailer Breakdown: Memorial Day

It’s the week of Memorial Day and that can mean only one thing. There is a long summer of movies ahead of us. It’s during this time of year that we see a huge amount of trailers released and I’m here to break them down for you. Like judging a book by it’s bright and beautiful cover, here’s our special Memorial Day Movie Trailer Breakdown:

Calvary (August 1st): I’m absolutely fascinated by the premise of this movie and by the cast. It’s an incredible mix of veteran actors like Brendan Gleeson, who most recently portrayed Alastor ‘Mad-Eye’ Moody in the Harry Potter movies to Chris O’Dowd from Bridesmaids. This dark comedy is definitely on my summer list.

The Giver (August 15th): Based on the best selling novel of the same title, The Giver is an amazing portrayal of dystopian society. It’s one of the few books that I actually enjoyed reading in Middle School and I’m very excited to see it turned into a movie. Fingers crossed, expectations low.

Maleficent (May 30th): I’ve fallen for this before. The trailer for the Little Red Riding Hood remake looked great and disappointed on a royal level. As did Oz the Great and Powerful. This time, the movie is Sleeping Beauty and the results will be the same. It’s a great looking trailer but something tells me it won’t be a very good film.

Night Moves (May 30th): This is probably the trailer that I’m most excited about on this list. It’s a physiological thriller starring Jesse Eisenberg, Dakota Fanning and Peter Sarsgaard. It’s brilliantly cast and seems like a very original, twisted plot. Mark this one down if you want to get away from the summer blockbusters and see a truly great film…hopefully.

Tammy (July 2nd): I debated giving the date that this movie is going to be released. While I do like Melissa McCarthy, she has now officially sold her soul to the devil. Tammy is essentially her 2013 movie Identity Thief, repackaged. I’d rather watch her poop in a sink on repeat than sit though this one.

Transformers: Age of Extinction (June 27th): Another summer and another Transformers movie. The nice part about this one is that they decided to drop Shia LaBeouf in favor of Mark Wahlberg. If you liked the first three installments it’s very likely that you’ll like this one. I’m right there in line with the other couple of million people that will see this movie opening week.
