The Truth About Music

"What's hot, what's not, and whats next in pop music"

Harris’ Song of the Week: All I Want by Kodaline

Let’s get this out of the way right up front. This music video is weird.

Kodaline are from Dublin, Ireland and have been around since 2011 (after a name change from 21 Demands). “All I Want” was the first acclaimed song from the band, having been featured on television and in Google’s 2012 Year in Review video.

The song itself is gorgeous. It’s a nice blend of earthy sounding drums and distorted guitar which builds slowly over the course of 5 minutes. What’s ironic about this song is that parts of it are very recognizable from its use in media. The rest of the song is unfamiliar, fitting perfectly around the familiar lyrics “But If you loved me, why’d you leave me? Take my body.”

This past June Kodaline released their first full length album titled In A Perfect World and have been touring in support of the album since then. Obviously huge in Ireland, the album has gone #1 overseas and is now starting to spread to the United States, albeit slowly. To see if Kodaline will be coming to a city near you soon, click here.
