Harris' Top 25 Songs of 2013 (25-21)

#25 – Wings by Little Mix: Formed on the X-Factor in Great Britain, Little Mix are a group of four girls that formed in 2011. Their song “Wings” took the United States by storm in 2013 and became their one and only charting record. Selling over 500,000 singles in the United States, the song is in the poppy ’70s style that Destiny’s Child brought back in the early ’00s.

#24 – Can’t Hold Us by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis: This song was the only Macklemore and Ryan Lewis song to reach #1 on the Billboard charts and was also the first to be released. Originally released in 2011, it became immensely popular in 2013 and will forever be part of the trio of songs that introduced us to the dynamic duo in 2013.

#23 -¬†Lightning Bolt by Jake Bugg: Let’s call this song what it is. The weirdest song on this list. Jake Bugg, for those of you who don’t know (we assume most of you) is a 19-year-old who wrote a song that sounds like it was recorded in the ’50s. “Lightning Bolt” gained national praise when it was featured in a Gatorade commercial early in 2013 and garnered steady play through the rest of the year. It’s a great song if you give it a chance. I’d highly recommend looking this kid up.

#22 – Applause by Lady Gaga: Figuring out where songs like this fit in is tricky. For all we know, Lady Gaga’s album Artpop will go onto have huge success and she’ll have three more singles on next years list. That’s no reason to ignore this one. “Applause” is a fantastic pop song that is more early Gaga than anything. Her attitude is on display and the frills of her previous album Born This Way are long gone.

#21 – It’s Time by Imagine Dragons: As I write this list, Imagine Dragons debut single “It’s Time” is enjoying its 48th week on the Billboard Hot 100. Sure it came out officially in 2012 but it peaked in 2013 and truly drove us all crazy this year. It’s driving drum beat and faint banjo make this one of the best sing along songs of 2013.
