Said The Whale

Day three at SXSW 2012 was a notch above the rest. With a full day of music, interviews and exclusive performances, we were treated to a ton of great music and some of our favorite performances yet. The day started off with The Balconies, an energetic rock band who took a few minutes to speak with us after their show. One of the coolest moments of the day was our taping with Said The Whale. Setup in an iHop parking lot, the band performed an exclusive song for us which will be posted some time next week.

We got to meet Marit Larsen, a singer songwriter with a flair for pop hooks and Lynhurst, a group of siblings trying to break through in the pop world. The concerts on day three were just as great as the interviews. The MTV Woodie Awards Festival featured up and coming performers such as Of Verona, Kimbra, Ed Sheeran, Gary Clark Jr. and Dev. The final performance of the day was by Philadelphia’s pride and joy, Chiddy Bang. They put on an awesome show with a ton of energy.

The night started off with a band that might turn out to be our favorite of the festival. Library Voices have a perfect combination of sound and songwriting ability. This pairing works on almost every level as a listener and their large ensemble adds a visually appealing touch. Next up was the Kaiser Chiefs, who blew us away with anthem after anthem. It seems like the crowd new more songs than anyone had expected.

Probably the coolest moment of the night took place outside of Latitude 30 where Foxy Shazam was performing. A glam rock band, we arrived to find a huge crowd had gathered outside the venue to listen. Instead of squeezing into the venue, we joined the crowd listening from the streets. It was a really great moment as people both inside and out sang along to each and every one of the bands epic songs. Overall, this was a great day of music in Austin.
