SXSW Day 1 Recap + Video Recap

Quiet Company at SXSW

Quiet Company

As we wake up for day 2 of SXSW 2012, let’s take a look back at some of the highlights from day 1. The standout band from the day was Austin’s very own Quiet Company. In the venue formerly known as Emo’s (now known as The Main), Quiet Company performed to a packed house. Their over the top, arena style sound is incredibly moving. A conversation after the show pondered the question, why is this band not huge? Maybe SXSW 2012 will be the big break these guys needed.

Another group that stood out for us on day 1 was Sphynx (also from Austin, TX). With a very smooth indie dance sound, the trio has a ton of energy (way more than expected). Finally, a band that is not from Texas, we checked out Ariane Moffatt. The interesting part about this group was their lead singer. She has an interesting voice that isn’t all that powerful. In fact, she could be deemed the weakest part of this group. The rest of the band is incredible.

Finally, there were a few other bands on our radar. Electric Touch put on an amazing show and the six members of Royal Teeth gave a powerful performance on a tiny stage at BD Riley’s. Overall, it was a solid night of music. Today, the interviews begin and tonight, we have a packed night of music. Be sure to follow us on Twitter @TruthAboutMusic for all of the updates.
