Harris’ Song of the Week: MoneyGrabber by Fitz and the Tantrums

Fitz of Fitz and the Tantrums at SXSW

One of the first things that I realized upon returning from SXSW this year was a lack of individual songs floating around in my head. While last year, bands, songs and album stuck with me for week, this year it’s just the bands. And there are a ton of them.

My favorite story comes from Fitz and the Tantrums. At SXSW 2010, the band landed its first record deal, becoming one of the most buzzed about bands in the days following the festival. Just over a year later, they returned to the stage at SXSW for a victory lap. Sure, they’re not multi-platinum recording artists yet but they are on their way.

Their first single, “MoneyGrabber” has been circulating American radio stations for a few weeks now but seeing the band perform it live was just amazing. It is the perfect first single as it captures the entireĀ essenceĀ of the band who are super tight and have a killer sound. Check out our live recording of MoneyGrabber below.
