The Truth About Music

Harris’ Song of the Week: Bang Bang Bang by Mark Ronson

Mark Ronson & The Business Intl. Yes that is a mouthful. For many citizens of the United States, Mark Ronson is not a name that comes to mind when thinking about the great acts of the past decade. Residents of Europe, specifically the United Kingdom, would likely disagree whole heartedly. Begining his music career in 2003, Ronson has amassed eight charted songs and has sold thousands of copies of his first three albums. Unfortunately, all of this was done within the United Kingdom.

Despite all of his success in Europe, he has never been able to make a splash in the U.S. This week, Ronson released his latest album, “Record Collection” and this weeks song of the week is the first featured single from it. “Bang Bang Bang” has already peaked at #6 on the UK charts and only time will tell weather it ever gains traction here.

What makes Ronson’s style great is the light hearted crafting of each song. Similar to other fun, energetic R&B artists like Cee Lo Green (Gnarls Barkley) and Lily Allen (who Ronson has worked with multiple times), the songs suck you in and leave you feeling happy while spoon feeding you perfect pop hooks. There’s something about synth runs and quick lyrics that go great together in the 2010 R&B scene. If you have never heard of Mark Ronson, do yourself a favor and listen to the song below. If you’re an¬†experienced UK rocker, then grab your copy of “Record Collection” and enjoy the sweet sounds. (On a side note, the video is set in a Japanese talk show, similar to Gnarls Barkley’s “Run (I’m A Natural Disaster)” video which featured Justin Timberlake).
