Harris’ Song of the Week: Nowhere Bound by Jon Sandler

Listening to music can sometimes throw you for a loop. Checking into a Myspace page that features only 200 plays per song and a shot of the Brooklyn skyline usually isn’t my personal cup of tea. Although I wasn’t completely in love with the sound on Jon Sandler’s EP “The Fancy Band” right off the bat, one song stuck in my head. Featuring a mix of georgous vocals and a well constructed melody, this weeks song of the week is a pleasant change of pace.

What really stands out in this song are the raw qualities in each instrument. From Sandler’s voice to the echoing of the drums, each element of this song was well crafted and fits together perfectly. My one and only gripe with the song is the opening guitar riff which seems ripped off from half a dozen ’90s one hit wonders. The opening few seconds aside, this song is worth a listen and for you indie rock fans out there, the EP will certainly quench your thirst for “I’ve never heard of this band” type rock.
