Harris’ Song of the Week: Brian Wilson by Barenaked Ladies

This is serious. For the first time in quite a few years I have a song permanently stuck in my head. Even when I’m on the verge, humming a new song at work I eventually revert back to this weeks song of the week, “Brian Wilson” by Barenaked Ladies. Although I cannot for the life of me remember where I first heard the song this summer, it has been on constant repeat in my head, at work, at home, in the morning and at night. It’s enough to drive someone crazy.

Of course, there is great reason to have a song like this stuck in your head. Although this was not the Ladies biggest single, it features the most catchy melody. I hate to say it but the verse within the song, along with the breakdown have absolutely no bearing on the song. Despite the incredibly witty lyrics and theme, the song is made when Steven Page hits the perfect harmony in the chorus. Here’s my warning. If you haven’t heard this song before, haven’t heard it in a long time or heard it in the car on the ride to work, watch the following video with caution. It is likely that 24 hours from right now you will still be humming the melody to “Brian Wilson” by Barenaked Ladies.
