The Truth About Music

#musicmonday: Biffy Clyro – “Captain”

As soon as I heard, Scottish alternative band, Biffy Clyro’s new(ish) album “Only Revolution”, I knew I had to feature a song in this #musicmonday spot. You may have heard, but not known, “Many a Horror” in the TV commercial trailer for the upcoming “Charlie St. Cloud,” a song also from this album. But there was one song that stood above the rest. That song is “Captain,” and this week’s #musicmonday.

As the first song on the album it has the responsibility of catching the audiences attention. While the first ten seconds are silent, it quickly breaks into a hard hitting intro before refining into the main melody of the song. Within the first thirty second you are hooked. There are numerous parts of the song that have resounded with me. One are the trumpets–I love a good, well composed and well placed horn section. I also love the tone of, lead singer, Simon Neil’s voice. Leading into the third when the whole band (three members strong) comes together to create a strong harmony during the chorus. The sound is unique, whole and persistent. A song which was stuck in my head for most of last week.
