The Truth About Music

iTunes Free Single of the Week: The Band Perry

Download this weeks free single from iTunes here: “If I Die Young” by The Band Perry

With a Taylor Swift look-alike at the helm, The Band Perry stem from Tennessee and bring the country twang to iTunes this week. With an EP that debuted in the first week of April, the band has a vibe that bleeds pure country. With a fiddle, high strung guitar and plenty of other southern gimicks, The Band Perry are clearly attempting to capitalize on the huge success of other country acts in the pop world. What troubles me about this band is the amount country in the sound. Unlike Swift and Lady Antebelum, The Band Perry are pure country and are sure to be passed on by most of mainstream America.

Lucky for them, they have emerged as artists in the countries largest demographic are will be helped by the iTunes single. The song itself is a slow, melodic tune with clichéd lyrics. If you have any slight interest in the country genre I would recommend it as a free download. On the other hand, if the most country you listen to came off of Swift’s “Fearless,” you should probably pass on this weeks free single.

The problem with your review of The Band Perry:

You label them as “Southern Gimmicks”? They were raised in Alabama and Tennessee. They ARE Southerners. That’s like saying Snoop Dogg uses “Compton Trickery and Gimmicks.” He’s the real deal and so are The Band Perry.

The only phony here is the guy behind the Blog. “The Truth About Music”? Pu-leez.

The great thing about the internet… even Douche-Bags get to have, and even post, an uneducated opion, and somehow think it is viable?

The joke here is clearly on you.

I mean, really, look at you black and white photo with “your shades” on?

It SCREAMS “Hello, I’m a phony, and I’m lonely.”

Get a job. Take up a hobby. Get laid.

What…you mean these Country Artists sound like country artists? Whoa! These are a talented group of kids and maybe they sound just like they want to sound. Maybe they are purposly NOT trying to put a pop sound in theur music on purpose.

I understand what you are saying….I think. That if you don’t like what’s in your opinion “real” country music, you will not like this song. Got it – but to say they are using southern gimmicks is an insult to their talent and country music in general. Bet you would not say this about the Dixie Chicks whom this band reminds me of more than Taylor Swift – who is not southern.

These are one of the most talented new country groups I have seen in a long time. The lyrics to their music are like no other and they are on the road to becoming huge. Please listen to “If I die young” or “Quittin You” before you post again. Thanks Bye
