Last week I shared with you just one of two of my favorite sites to stream music (Left As Rain), leaving you hanging on the other was just wrong! This week is all about the new and totally hot, Songza Sets. With a new design and endless listening material, they’ve only just begun.

Songza Sets is like the Albert Einstein of streaming music … although much better looking. Cooked up by the same team as the wonderful AmieStreet.com, Songza Sets isn’t just about the new music scene but about all music as it lives and breathes “packaged for you in interesting and informative ways.”

The site is made up of thematic 12 song set lists that include descriptions of the set as a whole and of each track. Themes are organized under certain categories; Independent, American Roots, Mainstream Pop etc, but when broken down are really all over the map. You’ll find yourself listening to everything from current chart-topping hits to sets based around music festivals like SXSW and CMJ or songs from the 90s that you never thought would be blaring from your speakers again to songs from the ‘pre-war jug’ era. A recently added category labeled “Op-Ed” compiles guest sets made by bands, bloggers, record labels, music experts, publications, celebrities, politicians and so on … With hundreds of options rapidly growing into thousands, while covering a vast array of genres it’s not hard to get lost in the magic that is Songza Sets.

Luckily, I’ve had the chance to spend some time with the Songza team at their offices and let me tell you … what a group! These people just flat out love everything about music. So much so, that they spend day in and day out putting together killer set lists to share with the rest of the music loving community, which is what they pride themselves on most: These set lists are created by humans for humans … no computerized predictions of what you may like, just plain old blood, sweat and tears!

Having also had the chance to create a few sets myself, I’m well aware of the time and research that goes into each. But enough about the labor, the music is what’s important! Take your own personal tour of Songza Sets, it doesn’t take long to familiarize yourself with the site’s simple navigation and easy to use music player. Hey … I’m rocking out to the “Songs By Musicians About Other Musicians” set as I write this!

Keegan Forte I want you to leave here everyday with a good sound in your ears with something new to listen to, a song that defines your day or week or life, a quote that will get you by and, of course, a desire to come back for more. As it says in Time Out New York’s book “1,000 Songs To Change Your Life:” “Music is everywhere we turn, unavoidable and inescapable. It provides a soundtrack for adolescence and adulthood, Saturday nights and Sunday mornings, relationships and break-ups, lives and deaths. Its simple ubiquity makes it the cultural air that we breathe.” …see full bio
