The Truth About Music

"What's hot, what's not, and whats next in pop music"

The Hipster, Why They Should Be Terminated

I hate college. Let me say that again. I hate college! Attending college and trying to study the music industry is like trying to install a screen door in a submarine. Over the past few years, I have gained so much respect for artists and what they go through on a daily basis. Some artists I love, and some artists I hate but never based an incoherent judgement.

Sitting down to watch the American Music Awards tonight I was surrounded by friends and Twitter. Both of which were feeding me similar garbage. One second they were trashing the Black Eyed Peas and the next they are ripping into Daughtry and Michael Jackson. If you decide your not going to like an artist, at least have the decency to listen before you leap off the ledge.
Filled with hipsters (who all hate being called hipsters), college is driving me close to the edge. In general I think people need to be more open about music. Give things a chance before trashing it. Don’t trash the Black Eyed Peas and then go to a club and dance to their #1 singles.
For the life of me I can’t remember why I began writing this post but it’s important for me to express my anger at college aged music listeners. Just because a group is selling records and making money does not make them bad. Listen to the album and then tell me they are no good.

i have listened to the album and still think they're pretty bad.
BUT i will continue to dance to them at clubs because a) i have zero control over the dribble being played and b) if im dancing im usually drunk and everything sounds good drunk.

also are you implying that those who dont like the majority of bad pop bands are hipsters? because i dont and im not a hipster.

Aren't you a "college-aged music listener"? Just sayin'.

I am, but I am open to pretty much any type of music making me more like a high school music listener. I hate to say it, but we as college students could learn a lot from our younger generation. They will give anything a chance and do not make judgements based on image.

    you are so hypocritical

in this entire article you speak about college listeners and their closed mindedness. and high schoolers dont judge based on image?!?!

WHAT THE FUCK are you talking about buddy. high school is entirely about biased opinions and closed minded judging. maybe you should change your phrasing.

also you cant generalize yourself as a high school listener because then that means every high schooler is like you. god i hope not
