The Truth About Music

"What's hot, what's not, and whats next in pop music"

The Truth About Music Radar: September 8th, 2009

In the first new music report of the fall it delights me to write about one of the most historic days in digital music since the invention of the iPod. As of tomorrow, 9/9/09, The Beatles full catalog, which has been remastered and re-released along with”Rock Band: The Beatles,” which is also released. As one of the final legs to drop in the digital music world, it seems that with this release, The Beatles inclusion in sites such as iTunes is inevitable.

Despite the huge story of the week, there are a lot of other new albums out this week. The biggest release of the week is from famed rap artist Jay-Z. Jay will release his eleventh studio album, “The Blueprint 3,” which is a sequel to his early 2000′s releases “The Blueprint,” and “The Blueprint: The Gift & The Curse.” This album has been hyped by the singles “Run This Town,” which featured Rihanna and Kanye West and “D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune).”

Also out this week is the long awaited sophomore album from Boys Like Girls. The band has toured and performed songs from their incredibly popular self titled debut album for nearly three years, a rather large time span for a young alternative band. Although I was unimpressed with the debut single “Love Drunk,” which is also the albums title, I am looking forward to this release to see what they can bring to the table. In helping the groups street credibility, track four on the album features country-pop sensation Taylor Swift.

As is any week there are a few albums out there that I don’t plan to get too deep into. Phish will release their 14th studio album “Joy.” I’ve never cared for the jam band groups and Phish certainly would fit into that group. Also out today is “Heartbeat Radio,” the fifth album from Norweigan songwriter Sondre Lerche. His music has never appealed to me, mixing jazz, folk and rock into an odd blend.

If none of that sparks your interest here are a few other albums out today:
Polar Bear Club release “Chasing Hamburg”
Howie Day releases “Sound the Alarm”
Get Up Kids release “Something to Write”
A Fine Frenzy release “Bomb In A Birdcage”
