The Truth About Music

All Points West Festival Returns for Another Year, but do I care enough to go?

Anyone who knows me personally knows two things about my feelings towards festivals. First is that I don’t like the idea. I want to see the bands I want to see and can’t imagine truly finding a new band to listen to while fighting through massive crowds (the apparent reason people enjoy them is because they can see bands they want to see and discover some new ones). Second is that I’ve never actually been to one.

There is something that might make me want to attend a festival. What if a festival created a lineup just for me? What if all the bands on the bill were ones that I either haven’t seen or want to see again? Well the All Points Festival held in Liberty State Park, right across from lower Manhattan, might just be for me.

The lineup of artists that I haven’t seen before that I want to see is pretty extensive. It includes Coldplay (I hate them yet I want to see them live), Vampire Weekend, Arctic Monkey’s, Tokyo Police Club, MGMT, Silversun Pickups, and the Beastie Boys. Ok so thats about 1/5 of the total bands that I would actually be interested in seeing. The other 4/5 I couldn’t care less about and really wouldn’t want to see for the first time on this type of stage. If you are a young aspiring band I want to see you for the first time where you belong, on a small, dimly lit stage at some hole in the wall rock club.

Despite my skepticism towards festivals I do intend to attend Warped Tour and All Points West this summer and we’ll see, if I’m feeling in the mood maybe even Bamboozle. How do you feel about festivals?

    wait.

    so, this:

“Well the All Points Festival held in Liberty State Park, right across from lower Manhattan, might just be for me.”

    and this:

“Ok so thats about 1/5 of the total bands that I would actually be interested in seeing. The other 4/5 I couldn’t care less about and really wouldn’t want to see for the first time on this type of stage.”

    contradict each other.

…are you excited about apw, or no?

Actually it does not contradict, I said that it might be for me, at that point I had not really made a decesion. That said I’m not sure I’ve made up my mind but I will look into it.
