My Favorite Type of Movies: Watchmen

Last week, amongst the busiest weekends of my entire life (included 5 sold out concerts at Webster Theater) I was able to fit in a showing of Watchmen. This is a movie that I wanted to see on opening night after seeing the teaser trailer about a year ago. A number of things went into my extreme anticipation of this movie the first of which was the writer, Alan Moore. Alan is credited as one of the best graphic novel writers of all time including writing my favorite movie of all time, V for Vendetta.

Despite his non-involvement in the making of the movie, this movie was quickly added to my list of favorite movies. Combined with the amazing writing of Alan Moore was the director, Zack Snyder who made his name with movies such as the epic “300.” This combination was more than I could handle and it was immediately decided that I couldn’t wait to see this movie.

I was not disappointed. An interesting point that was brought up to me by a close friend was my draw towards character development movies. There is something about learning everything there is to know about a character and why they are in the situation that intrigues me. A quick look at my own facebook page reveals my favorite movies include quite a few of these character development movies including:

  • V for Vendetta
  • Catch Me if You Can
  • Jerry McGuire┬á
  • Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Above all else, anyone who knows me personally can attest to my love of Star Wars (yes all six movies) the ultimate character development. Hours of my life have been spent analyzing (in my own head) the intricacies of each of the characters in the epic double trilogy. There is something about a characters journey that intrigues me more than a story ever could. That said, it is clear that Watchmen is now added to my list, right next to V for Vendetta, which for those of you that are not aware is my favorite movie.

If only the analysis of Star Wars did stay in your head…

Hi there! This blog post couldn’t be written much better! Going through this post reminds me of my previous roommate! He continually kept preaching about this. I will forward this information to him. Fairly certain he’s going to have a good read.
    Thanks for sharing!
