The Truth About Music

And The Oscar Goes To…

Although this is the Truth About Music, I do consider myself a movie buff. I have an extensive DVD collection and try to see as many movies I can. In this light here are my 2009 Oscar predictions:

Best Picture
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The Reader
Slumdog Millionaire

Best Director
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The Reader
Slumdog Millionaire

Leading Actor
Richard Jenkins in “The Visitor”
Frank Langella in “Frost/Nixon”
Sean Penn in “Milk”
Brad Pitt in “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”
Mickey Rourke in “The Wrestler”

Leading Actress
Anne Hathaway in “Rachel Getting Married”
Angelina Jolie in “Changeling”
Melissa Lea in “Frozen River”
Meryl Streep in “Doubt”
Kate Winslet in “The Reader”

Supporting Actor
Josh Brolin in “Milk”
Robert Downey Jr. in “Tropic Thunder”
Heath Leadger in “The Dark Knight”
Michael Shannon in “Revolutionary Road”
Philip Seymour Hoffman in “Doubt”

Supporting Actress
Amy Adams in “Doubt”
Penelope Cruz in “Vicky Christina Barcelona”
Viola Davis in “Doubt”
Taraji P. Henson in “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”
Marisa Tomei in “The Wrestler”

Animated Feature Film
“Kung-Fu Panda”

Original Screenplay
“Frozen River”
“In Bruges”

On a personal note I think there are three huge snubs in the main categories for this Sunday’s award show. First, Clint Eastwood’s performance in “Gran Torino,” was passed over while “The Dark Knight,” was missed in the picture of the year category because of it’s popularity. Finally, Bruce Springsteen’s title track from “The Wrestler,” has been snubbed the best original song Oscar.

I don’t agree with Best Actress – it’s going to go to Kate Winslet. She was fantastic in The Reader. And Supporting Actress is going to go to Amy or Penelope. Also, I think Mickey is going to take home for Best Actor – I loved Sean in Milk, but no. Also, In Bruges may take home the Oscar for best original screenplay.
I lovede Gran Torino – I was actually more upset that the song from the film wasn’t nominated for Best Song – it’s quite lovely!
