New Cassettes Prepare For American Domination On Heels Of SXSW
One of the greatest parts about SXSW is discovering new music. Music that you have never heard from various countries, or brand new acts from your own backyard. In diving into the thousands of bands listed on the various websites for SXSW, we came across a band called New Cassettes. Introducing A Real Band, The American Secrets
“Most people don’t know that we’re a real band.” Generally a troubling statement coming from a group of musicians playing SXSW for the first time. For most bands, television success comes after musical success. Whether it’s a spot on a commercial or an appearance on Late Night, bands almost always put the music first. Self-described as a “professional contest band” by bassist Bryon Rossi, The American Secrets were created as a side project to a number of other groups including lead singer Daniel Zott’s band Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr, and have become a bit of a runaway success story. Atomic Tom Seeing Success After Getting Off The Subway
Bands built off of their music videos have an instant appeal. Good music and pop hooks, paired with creative music videos, breeds instant recognition and a nationwide fan base. Atomic Tom built a strong reputation for themselves in the New York City area but until the recent release of their single “Take Me Out” and the video that goes along with it, their nationwide appeal was limited. ”I would say we notice it more elsewhere” drummer Tobias Smith said. “In New York we’ve been able to get a lot of people at our shows for the last two or three years. When we went to Chicago, a few weeks before we released the video we had like 30 people at the show. When we went back there a couple of weeks ago we had well over a hundred people.” Continue...

Review: The Triumphant Return of Panic at the Disco, Vices & Virtues
It’s been a few years since Panic at the Disco lost two of its original members and hiatus was inevitable. Just after completing work on the original bands final single “New Perspective,” which was released free of an album on the Jennifer’s Body Soundtrack, the band split. Left standing were drummer Spencer Smith and lead singer Brandon Urie. With the bands voice left intact, it seemed likely the Panic at the Disco would return to the stage and they did just that on SXSW’s final night. Continue...
