Songs In My Head: The Show Goes On
There are certain types of songs that often sum up a particular time of year. When you look back at the summer, there’s always a handful of songs that created the soundtrack for the beach, pool or boat. 2011 has a few songs on their way to being called this summers largest anthems. So far, our pick is Lupe Fiasco’s first single from his critally acclaimed album “Lasers.” Continue...

Songs In My Head: Shake Me Down
Only time will tell if Cage the Elephant will ever reach their potential. They have an incredible energy that shines through with flying colors on their album, a feat not so easily accomplished. While their very first single, “Ain’t No Rest For The Wicked,” might end up going down as the bands largest, “Shake Me Down,” the bands first single from Thank You, Happy Birthday is a fantastic portrayal of the bands prowess as song writers. From the very first note, it just works. Continue...

Songs In My Head: The Power Is On by The Go! Team
There is a very small chance that you know this song by name. Featured in the NFL Play: 60 commercials that run constantly during football games, this song has become completely obsessive and stuck in my head for hours on end. The commercial features members of the Atlanta Falcons riding on a bus, each bobbing their head to the beat of a particular part of the song. I can’t say it’s a great song overall but the intro, which is featured in the commercial has an addictive quality that makes you bob back and fourth. Even in your desk chair. Give it a listen and see if it affects you the same way. Continue...

Songs In My Head: Whataya Want From Me by Pink
We just wanted to quickly share this with you. Written by Pink for Adam Lambert, “Whataya Want From Me” has slowly begun making its way around the internet. It is really interesting to hear what songs sound like when performed by their writers. Unfortunately here, it seems as if Lambert not only had the song written for him and his team but the construction of the production as well. It begs the question, why didn’t Pink just release this song for herself? Continue...

Another Successful Car Commercial Song: Shayna Zaid & The Catch
Rest assured, you probably haven’t heard the name of the band in the headline above. What you do know, and have heard, is the song that this band sings. “Morning Sun” is featured in the commercial for the 2011 Ford Edge and ads another song onto a list of great indie rock songs featured in car television spots. Despite only having a $4.99 EP on sale through iTunes, the band is sure to be selling plenty of copies of their newly discovered hit single (the EP release date is 2009). Below, be sure to catch both the Edge commercial and a sweet live performance of the song on YouTube. Continue...

Songs In My Head: We R Who We R
I am not crazy. I didn’t have a seizure while writing the headline to this post. As Robert first reported in his article back in May, Ke$ha continues to be music’s greatest enigma. Each time I find out that she is releasing a single, I brace for the worst. Even if she is a Lady Gaga wannabe, she’s got a fresh sound and her producers have a finger directly on the pulse of America’s Top 40 audience. Her latest single “We R Who We R,” is no exception. It is annoying for the first 45 seconds, has an awesome hook and leaves you loving it after just two listens. That same formula could be applied to any Ke$ha song. For now, check out the latest song from music’s greatest train wreck and/or enigma. Continue...

Songs In My Head: “Slice” by Five For Fighting
It seems like every single time Five For Fighting release a song and label it a “single,” I fall in love with it. Despite my hatred for their albums, the singles seem to always rock. This song takes a modern look back at the Don Mclean classic “American Pie” with cheese ball lines like: “There was a time a long, long time ago, Chevy’s and levees played on the radio” and “We were more than just a slice of American pie.” Despite cliches of string cheese proportions, John Ondrasik’s gorgeous tones with piano to match make this the songs in my head. Continue...

Songs In My Head: St. Elmos Fire by John Parr
I know that this song has already been featured on TAM as a song of the week. Regardless of that status, I thought I would share the song once more. It is one of my favorite songs of all time, opitimizing what ’80s rock was like. On a personal note, the song was featured on a video promoting the sleep away camp I went to when I was a little kid. On every level this song is great. Thanks to @CaseyContrarian for making me think of the song tonight!! Continue...

Songs In My Head: “Like We Used To” by A Rocket To The Moon
Over the last few weeks we have seen a clear trend in upcoming artists in pop. Starting with Mayday Parade, this summers big alternative acts are now becoming clear as their radio singles hit mainstream radio. One of my favorite songs in this genre comes from A Rocket To The Moon who have spent the last few years opening for bands such as Cute Is What We Aim For, Secondhand Serenade and The Cab. Continue...

The Songs in my Head: “Rain” by Creed
Spurred on by the torrential rain storm taking place right outside my window, I wanted to give some credit to Creed who have managed to release another chart topping single, nine years after their last big hit. In 2001, the Florida based group released the album “Weathered” which contained the single “My Sacrifice.” Although the song did not perform really well on mainstream pop charts, it did become the #1 song on the Mainstream Rock charts on December 15th, 2001. It is now 2010 and Creed is back with a song that brings you right back to the early part of the decade. The band has a keen ability to hold you back, building up the entire song into the very first chorus. When that first chorus hits you feel it from both a musical and emotional standpoint. This is a characteristic present in many of Creeds songs and it is the recipe [...] Continue...
