Review: Katy Perry Invites Audience Into Fluffy Dream World
Over the past decade, artists have upped the ante. some have taken off more clothes, some have written racier lyrics and others have created an aura of darkness around their entire persona (see Rihanna and Lady Gaga for many of these). This set of attributes, dark, mysterious, daring, does not describe Katy Perry. Being the antidote to the darkness, Perry has released two albums in just three years, rising to superstardom, all while creating a world filled with cupcakes and polka dots instead of lingerie and political controversy. Continue...

Opinion: Katy Perry, Please Go Away, You Aren’t Loved (Anymore)
I’m just like most of America. The first time I heard Katy Perry, I was instantly in love with the sound. There was a small town vibe mixed in with all of those catchy lyrics and dangling hooks. She was a true singer and songwriter who you wanted to stand behind and support. She had the pop music world by the throat with her immensely catchy party song “I Kissed A Girl” but then showed that she was a legitimate artist with mega-hits like “Waking Up In Vegas,” which sold over 1.7 million copies (U.S.). Continue...

Recap: Grammy Nomination Show
Last night, the CBS produced a high budget, live television event to announce some of the nominees for the upcoming 53rd Grammy Awards (on February 13th). The idea to make the Grammy Awards a true event is a great one. The best part of the show is the performances. So why not dedicate an entire night to the artists that helped to make 2010 special? Continue...

Opinion: Women Stand In Unison In A Post Gagalyptic World
Generally, when we talk about people uniting, there is a positive overtone. If it’s Americans standing together after a great tragedy or celebrities coming together to help raise awareness for a cause. This year has made me question people coming together. More specific than people, I am targeting powerful women in pop music. It’s nothing against them personally. On their own, each of these women has displayed incredible star power. The problem is what has been left in a post-gagalyptic world. Continue...

Opinion: Is Walmart On The Verge Of A Kanye West Lawsuit?
This is the album cover for Kanye West’s latest album, to be released on November 22nd. It has apparently been banned in Walmarts across America. People soon forget Pink Floyd’s “Shine On” album cover, which featured a naked person floating above the ocean. They also forget Nirvana’s “Nevermind” album cover which featured a full frontal baby boy underwater. And we cant forget Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” which features Katy (hotter then ever) floating on a cloud with what looks like a band of “cloud material” covering her ass. The list goes on. Continue...

Review: Does Katy Perry’s Album Satisfy Our Teenage Dreams?
As far as pop stars go, I’m usually pretty open to new music and hearing sounds evolve over time. In the summer of 2008, the music world was shocked by the straight forward nature of Katy Perry’s first single. “I Kissed A Girl” was a fun party song that didn’t really tell the entire story. What started as a quirky first single, evolved into one of the better albums of that year, producing five solid singles. They ranged from deep ballads like “Thinking Of You” to pop hits such as “Waking Up In Vegas” and “Hot n Cold.” It is now 2010. Perry has spent most of the summer wetting our appetites for a new album with two mega singles. The second single, “Teenage Dream” shares its name with the album while the first single reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 weeks before the album release. Now the challenge begins for [...] Continue...

#musicmonday: Katy Perry – “Teenage Dreams”
This week the Twitosphere and blogosphere seem to be blowing up about this song, so that might be part of the reason for this week’s #musicmonday. The other part that it actually is a good song. The title track off of her upcoming album, “Teenage Dreams” is also the follow up single to “California Gurls.” It would appear that Katy Perry has another huge album on her hands, a perfect follow up to the deceptively good “One Of The Boys.” Continue...
