The Truth About Harris
People often ask me, “Why pop music?” Is it the money? Is it the popularity? The thing I love most about music is the way it can light up a room. The way a pop song can put a smile on someones face, unite a nightclub or fill an arena. When the first few chords are strummed or the initial beat is laid down, everyone in the room feels it, connects with it. There is a raw emotional relationship to the song and it is for that reason that I have devoted myself to the genre. In my life I have gone through more music turbulence than I care to recall. The first chapter of my life saw ‘70s disco and boy bands. At another time, I worshiped rap and hip/hop and still to this day, can’t live down the fact that I once called Fall Out Boy a talentless [...] Continue...

The Truth About Kevin
Hi, my name is Kevin Clarkston. I’m a part-time freelance writer, blogger, and musician. I love music. Rap, hard rock, pop. dance, R&B, it doesn’t matter. I’ve been playing piano since I was nine, and also taught myself how to play guitar. I went to Northwestern State University where I graduated with a degree in journalism. While there I wrote for the school paper and worked as the music director for the campus radio station. I currently work as a production tech at a television station in Alexandria, Louisiana, but writing about music and pop culture are my true passions. What I love most about pop music is how democratic it is. Two people might not be anything a like, but they can find common ground in a favorite song. I’ve done freelance work for sites like Suite101 and Metronome Review, I also maintain a music blog, Indies and The [...] Continue...

The Truth About Robert
Robert Dean is a freelance writer, author, poet from New Orleans, LA. Born on the Southside of Chicago in 1981, he studied English and writing throughout his formative school career but never considered it something more than a hobby. After taking a compositional writing class his senior year of high school and meeting a teacher that changed his perspective on the art, he decided to take up writing as a career, for better or worse. Graduating with top honors from the Chicago center of broadcasting, he learned the journalism side of writing. While the other students were busy getting ready to look good on camera, he was too busy reading books. Dean has worked for NBC, ABC, The Michiana Entertainer, and has had freelance pieces published in online journals and has also has contributed to various independent zines that have came and gone throughout the years. Currently, he is a contributor [...] Continue...

The Truth About Tara
Tara Berkoski joined The Truth About Music in 2011. She covers concert reviews on Long Island, NY along with nearby locations. She also interviews musical acts passing through the area. She was always fascinated by music and radio for as far back as she can remember and began attending concerts as soon as her parents allowed. She was always “that girl” in the front row singing loudly, dancing wildly, snapping photos and enjoying every minute of it. She graduated from the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford in 2010 with a major in Performing Arts Management, minor in Business Administration and concentration in Publicity. While in college, Berkoski interned at Toad’s Place, a live music venue in New Haven, CT. She was co-founder of Bleeding Hartt (now known as Redtail Records), a school-wide record label focused on the development, production, distribution and booking of on-campus artists. She [...] Continue...

The Truth About Edmund
Edmund O’Neill is, first and foremost, a scientist. I have a passion for the science called linguistics – the study of human language. I am currently with the Graduate Center of CUNY, working towards an M.A. in linguistics. Technology is my other passion; I believe in the Ubuntu philosophy of free (as in beer and as in freedom) software for every human on earth. I see technology as a means to an end – not as an end in and of itself. To get in touch with me, you can follow me on Twitter, or check out my Facebook page. Continue...

The Truth About Jon
Hi my name is Jonathan Custodio also known as Jon. I’m 21 years old and I’m currently studying Philosophy with a concentration in Law and Ethics at Northeastern University. As of right now I plan on going to Law School and pursuing a career as a talent agent primarily representing musicians and actors. Music is my life. I can’t go a day without listening to music in any form. From rap to techno to punk rock to classic rock to reggae to alternative. Anything and everything EXCEPT country, because I don’t see it as a legitimate form of music. You can fight me on this all you want but country music is a joke. As a part of this staff I will be bringing to the table both reviews and interviews of shows and bands that perform in the Boston area, and album reviews, movies and TV reviews etc. So [...] Continue...

The Truth About Tom
I’m Tom. I live, write and make drinks in Los Angeles, California. I was born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware, a fact some people dispute, saying “No one is from Delaware.” This is simply not true, and I am living proof. Upon graduating from the University of Delaware with a BA in English, my goals were simple. First was to not live in Delaware. Second was to start making money. I figured I would like to act, write and bartend, in that order. It turns out that the reverse order indicated how profitable each of those vocations would be. So here I am in Los Angeles. I get on stage every once in a while, do some internet videos, serve drinks at a sports arena/performance venue that I won’t name outright for legal reasons but it’s not tough to guess. You can find out more at my website www.iamtomhamilton.com. And [...] Continue...

The Truth About Melissa
I’m Melissa McCarthy and my life is a never ending soundtrack. Music defines my existence and I’m in love with everything about it- even when it’s really, really terrible. I’m a rock girl who listens to EVERYTHING, and my music taste is even more A.D.D. than I am. Jay-Z is my idol and the only thing I’m more obsessed with than Brand New is the art of making mix tapes. My dad started me out with one when I was six and I’ve been hooked ever since. I love the way you can pop in an old CD and it takes you back to a particular moment in time. You’re reminded of where you were, what you were doing, and who you were with. For every song on every CD, I have a story to tell and my memories can all be found in my CD collection. So, if we [...] Continue...

The Truth About Jay
With the proliferation of suburban monotony and pop-culture’s abduction of counter-culture, it’s time for a spotlight to be put on real artists: The Do It Yourself troubadours whose artistic expression takes precedence over album sales. The poets and warblers who lack the big budget marketing to become mainstream, but create worlds all their own. Working for the music mainstream himself, Jay has seen nearly every music video in the Universal Music catalog during his time in Video Production. The result is an eclectic musical taste intended to blend new flavors for a world sick of the same old song again. Continue...

The Truth About Brianne
I’m Brianne Galli, a freelance writer/blogger based in Buffalo, NY. I first wanted to make a career out of writing when I learned about muckrakers in 8th grade, but when I was told that no one would be my friend, I abandoned the idea and turned to music. I now aim to be a muckraker of music bringing lesser known bands to the forefront and giving them the coverage they deserve. Though I grew up on the classic rock of Zeppelin and The Doors, my musical interests range from MGMT to Al Green and everything in between. Continue...
