Stoop Kids To Release New Album, Plan Release Show

Described alternatively as “Beach Boys-meets-Beastie Boys” and “Outkast-meets-Vampire Weekend,” Stoops draw from the rich musical melting pot of their native New Orleans to create a sound that’s equal parts doo wop, downtempo jazz and hip hop.

Such manic musical diversity is on full display in “17:35″ and “Happy Birthday,” the first two singles from Already Out of Time, their debut album. The sprightly “17:35″ sounds like great lost track from Amy Winehouse’s Back To Black with its blend of Temptations-style doo wop harmonies and rapped verses, while the bluesy boom bap of the mockingly titled “Happy Birthday” provides the perfect backdrop for the track’s venomous lyrics. On paper, this should sound like a hot mess, but the end results are so fantastic it makes you wonder why no one else thought to mix Fats Domino and Frank Ocean.

Stoops Kids will celebrate Already Out of Time‘s release with a show in their hometown at the Howlin’ Wolf & The Den on January 23. The group, known for their energetic live performances, will share the main stage with Eclypso and Tank and The Bangas.  Listen to “17:35″ and “Happy Birthday” HERE and HERE.
