Synth-pop Band Basic Shapes Unveil ‘Weird Kids’ Single

Based in NYC, synth-pop trio Basic Shapes’ attitude toward electronic music has been influenced both by sonic warriors like LCD Soundsystem and their own DIY ethics, an approach that spills over into their laptop-free live shows as well as their latest single “Weird Kids.”

Opening with the sound of what can only be described as “stomach gurgle No Whammy mashup,”  the song quickly blossoms into a hypnotic rhythm that provides plenty of groove but never gives way to pounding bass. That moody restraint makes the track feel both relaxing and dancefloor-ready (via watkins).  Listen to “Weird Kids” HERE.

Fans on the east coast can catch Basic Shapes live early next year. The band will be playing in New York City at the Cake Shop on January 9 and The Grape Room in Philadelphia on January 22.
