The Knocks Unveil ‘Classic’ Ft. Powers

Any way you slice it, naming your single “Classic” is a dicey proposition. Such hubris can either be a self-fulfilling prophecy or an invitation to comments section condemnation. Thrillingly, “Classic,” a new single from NYC-based duo The Knocks falls into the former category.

A juggernaut of a jam, the track is equal parts Nile Rodgers, INXS, Daft Punk and Rock Steady-era No Doubt, all at their most deliriously catchy and danceable. Seriously, this song has summer anthem scrawled all over its deep, bouncy bass, funk guitars and Powers’ carefree, sunny vocals.

The lead single from their forthcoming full-length debut Endisco, ”Classic” is just the latest musical triumph for The Knocks. Made up of B-Roc and J-Patt, the duo’s background of soul, funk, trip hop and hip hop served them well as they cut their teeth producing remixes for the likes of Santigold, Foster The People, HAIM and Two Door Cinema Club. The duo have spent the last three years getting their live legs via an international DJ gig, sharing the stage with acts like M.I.A. and Chromeo.  The Knocks are hitting the road again this month, taking their show to college towns as well as the IleSoniq festival in Montreal.
