King avriel Shares New Single ‘Caricatures’

Though she’s only released three songs via her SoundCloud account, L.A.-based singer King avriel (no my spell check’s not broken–the ‘a’ is supposed to be lowercase thank you very much) has already drawn fan and critical acclaimed for her slinky, ethereal brand of alt-R&B laced with incisive social commentary. Her latest offering, “Caricatures,” is a case in point; over minimalist electro effects, quiet, steady drumming and warm guitars, avriel pours out layered, emotionally brutal lyrics that wrestle with ideas of intimacy, love and the dark side of projecting a fantasy onto a romantic partner.

A performer since the age of two, a short story writer by five and a pianist and violinst by nine, King avriel’s musical and artistic journey has included stints such as the voice of Timerly on Nickelodeon’s Hey Arnold, and being featured on mixtapes with the likes of Miguel and Stalley. After becoming disillusioned with the music industry, she accepted a full academic scholarship to UCLA, before realizing music was her true passion.

King avriel’s full-length debut, set to be released this spring, is filled with hyper personal pieces in the vein of “Caricatures,” all written and recorded in the singer’s bedroom. Listen to “Caricatures” HERE.
