JD Samson & Men ‘Making Art’

It’s often said that from great pain comes great art. While abject suffering may not always be needed to make good music (see Earth Wind and Fire and Stevie Wonder for references), creation of the even happiest tunes involves a little fear and frustration, as JD Samson & Men note in their latest single “Making Art.”

The second single from their album Labor, the song, as JD explains, is “about the process of creating work. It takes you on a wild and frantic journey of the artist, jumping back and forth between self-doubt and creative confidence. Intentionally speaking to the audience, we connect to our community and return to the passionate relationship we have created together.”

Fortunately, the song–a catchy pop track driven by electronic bleeps and a rubberband bass–doesn’t sound labored. Listen to “Making Art” here. Labor is slated to hit iTunes and Bandcamp on October 22. Fans who pre-purchase the albumĀ on Bandcamp will get two free non-albums tracks with the record to follow on release day, “Let Them Out or Let Me In” and “Make Him Pay.” Also, a limited run of vinyl editions, complete with MP3s, will be available along with merchandise and music bundles.

A record release party for Labor is set for October 26.
