Cut Copy Release 'Free Your Mind,' Announce Tour Dates

Cut Copy have returned with “Free Your Mind,” the first single and title track from their forthcoming fourth album.

Featuring a warm, pulsating bass, whirling synthesizers and soaring, emotive vocals, the track is vintage Cut Copy. Produced by frontman Dan Whitford, the trio recorded Free Your Mind, the follow up to their Grammy-nominated third album Zonoscope, in their home base of Melbourne, Australia, before taking off to New York and enlisting Dave Fridmann to mix the material.

Theme-wise, the album was influenced by the two “Summers of Love;” the first being the 60″s counterculture revolution, the second during the decade spent under British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher”s reign. Whitford says the band drew inspiration from the youthful rebellion that marked both eras, hoping Free Your Mind will serves a sonic preview of sorts to the next cultural revolution.

“The concept of freedom is one that”s universally positive and timeless, and whatever each person”s version of that freedom is, it”s a good thing to be reminding people or even just ourselves to be “free”,” Whitford said. Free Your Mind comes out November 5. You can , and get the single as an instant grat track.

Cut Copy will also be hitting the road for an extensive U.S. tour, with tickets going on sale this Friday. View the tour dates, and listen to “Free Your Mind” below.
