If the current wave of pop music is known for one thing, it’s its speed–even some of the biggest radio ballads barely take a minute to catch their breath before hitting the next chorus. Which makes Valente’s latest single “The Distant Lights” stick out like a sore thumb. Well, a very intriguing and soothing sore thumb.

Featuring minimal instrumentation beyond ambient synthesizers, soft guitar licks and drum clicks, the track can make you feel like you’re floating in space or moving through water in slow motion as each element gradually builds into a swelling, serene crescendo. Definitely a song for long, moonlit drives home.

Valente’s Music For Rooftops is out now. Listen to “The Distant Lights” here.
