My Morning Jacket Announce September Tour Dates

My Morning Jacket”s upcoming slate of shows isn”t just your standard live gig; the group is embarking on a “Spontaneous Curation Series.” Find out what that means after the jump.

Starting with their European tour, set to kick June 16 with a performance at the Azenka Rock Festival in Mendizabala, Spain, the “Spontaenous Curation Series”–try saying that to out loud in a theatrical, awe-inspiring voice. Sounds cool huh? Anyway, back to the lecture at hand–My Morning Jacket will let fan club members and concert goers assist them in curating each night”s set list via Twitter.

It just won”t be the band”s new material–fans will have the chance pillage their entire catalogue, including rarities, guaranteeing a unique set list for every performance.  In addition, no songs will be sung twice for their back-to-back  shows at Red Rocks Amphitheater.

“Curating spontaneously is best achieved by communication within a community because otherwise, curating in a vacuum can lead one to spontaneously combust.,” the band said in a statment.  ”However, a spontaneously curated show is the best way to achieve collective musical combustion.  Concurrently, we are crazed with excitement and curiosity to see how Roll Call and concert goers spontaneously contribute to our eclectic collective curation!”

Here”s how it works: My Morning Jacket “Roll Call” fan club members will be getting details on how they”ll get to choose the opening song for every date of the tour, including all festival appearances. With step two, entitled “Encore Curation,” the band will send out tweets days before each show with instructions on how to submit songs for encores. When the band puts together their set list at each stop, they will choose a batch of songs based on all the entries.
