Nneka To Release ‘Soul Heavy’ In 2012

Award-winning Nigerian singer/songwriter Nneka is gearing up to release her third album Soul Heavy. The album, set for release in February, features guest appearances by The Roots’ Black Thought and Ms. Dynamite. Nneka’s new album is an eclectic grab bag of hip hop, reggae and African pop, while her lyrics tackle subjects like love, pain, politics and God, and have earned her comparisons to politically conscious soul singers like Lauryn Hill and Erykah Badu. Her passion and pride for her homeland is on full display in the video for the album’s first single ‘My Home,” a tune that swings with swaggering, brassy attitude. Watch it HERE.

Like her sophomore release Concrete Jungle, the album was produced by close friend and co-writer DJ Farhot, whose previous collaborations include Adele, Cee-Lo Green, Wyclef Jean and Amy Winehouse. Nneka’s star has been on the rise in America since dropping her last album, with a relentless touring schedule that saw the singer perform more than 150 shows for more than 500,000 people. She also made appearances at SXSW, the David Letterman show, Glastonbury and Newport Folk Festival, as well as serving as the supporting for Lenny Kravitz, Nas & Damien Marley, The Roots and Gnarls Barkley.
