Indies And The Underground

"Exposing New Music To The Blog-Reading Masses"

The Gift’s New Album Set For September Release

Indie pop band The Gift’s  have been kind of a big deal in Europe for a while now, bringing their unique brand of psychedelic synth-pop to the masses through relentless touring. Now the Portugal-based band have America in the their sights, with last month’s show at NYC’s Bowery Ballroom, their first North American date in years, the first step in conquering Stateside music fans.

The group’s  latest album Explode is set for a September 27 release in the U.S. on the band’s own La Folie label, with a full tour likely to follow. Such intense drive and dedication has been a mainstay of the band, formed by four childhood friends in 1994.

Singer Sonia Tavares explains “The Gift is above all fights, all cries, all joy. It is above everything. For us, it is the foundation of everything.  When events are going wrong — when events are going very wrong — the extreme basis of everything is our friendship.  We are four heads, you know, and the head of Nuno, our composer, can be complicated, because he knows exactly what he wants.  But we all have a main purpose, and it is The Gift.”
