Review: Black Keys Return With Sixth Studio Album
Do the dudes in The Black Keys sleep? I am convinced they are unaware of the modern advances in science known as Ambien and other sleep aids available to two men clearly in need of either spending some time away from each other or a few hours of rest at the very least. It’s May, and they already have a new album out. Seriously. “Blackrok”, the first non-lame rap-rock collaboration record since Anthrax just came out, like what three months ago? And now, we’ve got “Brothers” another solid record. Where do they find time to write so many songs? Do they hear music when they use the bathroom? Imagine what their dreams sound like! Continue...

The Passing Of A Metal Legend
When you’re a fan of Heavy Metal, you border on weird and obsessive. Punks are apathetic, indie rock kids are too cool for what they liked six months ago and Hip Hop is stuck in it’s own period of Glam that Metal saw back in the 80’s, the madness for the music just isn’t the same. For a lot of people music is just music but to the average metalhead, their music is their identity. Metal kids encapsulate bands in their arms and hold them so close that the grip, while loving, can be strangling. Shows are like church and the bands who sweat out song after song are the apostles to a gospel for those who dress in black. It isn’t just a style of music it’s a community and a scene, a youth group for outsiders or a place for the local drunks to smash into one another in [...] Continue...

Ke$ha, The Music Industry’s Greatest Enigma
I really, really want to hate Ke$ha, but I can’t. I don’t know what it is. I hate her music. I really do, “Blah Blah Blah” is one of the stupidest songs ever written, and I mean it. Ever. But there is something about her and the fact that she’d wipe her ass with my article as soon as she’d jump into a fluid soaked gangbang and beg for the center square that demands for someone to stare at her like she’s a majestic animal in the forest of music. She’s this weird pop culture enigma that I can’t wrap my mind around. Her music sucks and the people who like her make me want to sit down and ask them serious questions about their childhood because her record “Animal” is nothing more than a childish party record for the next few months and I’m sure like all things Dr. [...] Continue...

A Special Connection Between Skateboarding & Music
George Carlin once said, “Respect is not given. It is earned” and with all things in the Carlin catalog of idealisms, this should be ranked alongside life’s golden rule. In an age where we dole out praise for less than worthy individuals who’s contributions to society are nothing more than a one hit wonder or a moronically bleak reality show, that respect is less than available from most people with a brain capable for abstract thought. To those who earn their places in popular culture’s annuals of warranted celebrity, the gifts they offer the world can be things that can change the face of how something is felt, how mountains of understanding can be changed through one persons, art, music or sport. Satan Himself Ashamed Of Meatloaf’s Latest Album
Originally, I wasn’t going to review the new Meat Loaf record. I think he’s incredibly cheesy and I hate “Bat of hell.” I also hate “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” as well but completely based on the title of his new record, “Hang cool Teddy bear” I’m going to go into this thing blind and be optimistic for the sake of some honest journalism. Really, the name alone is worth the listen. I’m a writer, things like this matter to me. I wanted to know more about the name and what it signified and as all things go, I’m sure the name will reveal itself through song. I’m going try something different with this review and I’m going to take you through my process as I listen to the record and decide if it’s worth buying or spitting on when you pass it in Best Buy. Good luck Meat Loaf. Continue...

Underdog Josh Charles Highlights New Orleans JazzFest
Josh Charles is a complicated person. Lost between the flux of nice guy singer-songwriter and rabid piano fondler, it’s hard to know exactly where someone’s music can lead the person playing it when the songs themselves are beautifully sociopathic. Plainly put, no matter if you’re into technical playing or soulful brooding, both are covered and executed with exacting skill. His music isn’t Jazz and it’s not blues, I don’t know if people still apply the term “Boogie Woogie” in the later thousands or whatever you want to classify the time frame we live in but, it’s honest and that’s what counts in a world knee deep in garbage music flooding pop radio by the minute. The Truth About Robert
Robert Dean is a freelance writer, author, poet from New Orleans, LA. Born on the Southside of Chicago in 1981, he studied English and writing throughout his formative school career but never considered it something more than a hobby. After taking a compositional writing class his senior year of high school and meeting a teacher that changed his perspective on the art, he decided to take up writing as a career, for better or worse. Graduating with top honors from the Chicago center of broadcasting, he learned the journalism side of writing. While the other students were busy getting ready to look good on camera, he was too busy reading books. Dean has worked for NBC, ABC, The Michiana Entertainer, and has had freelance pieces published in online journals and has also has contributed to various independent zines that have came and gone throughout the years. Currently, he is a contributor [...] Continue...
