Scary Moments Involving The RIAA
Josh Feldman is a writer and podcast DJ from a suburb outside of Washington, D.C. On his podcast, The Sideswipe he talks about the music industry and other occurrences in the entertainment world. Holla Back at Josh on twitter @Jazzyfeldzle. Less than 24 hours ago, a friend of mine (lets call him Frank) received a very cryptic phone call. It was an automated message machine claiming to be from the RIAA, the “Recording Industry Association of America” more notably known for the organization which sues the pants off anyone for illegally downloading or public use of songs without permission. The RIAA was calling Frank to tell him that there were in an excess of 30 cases of music piracy linked to his computer. Continue...

Where Are They Now Friday’s: T.I. “I’m Back”
Josh Feldman is a writer and podcast DJ from a suburb outside of Washington, D.C. On his podcast, The Sideswipe he talks about the music industry and other occurrences in the entertainment world. Holla Back at Josh on twitter @Jazzyfeldzle. Four weeks of writing and I came to the conclusion that I need a gimmick, something to live by and something to be known for. Something that readers can look forward to every time they open The Truth About Music. While watching television online today I came up with a total inspiration. Remember that one band you hear so much about for months and months and then suddenly they fell off the face of the earth? Well I wondered that when I was watching repeats of MTV’s “Battle For Ozzfest.” I heard about all of these bands constantly in every episode and I decided to find out one thing. One [...] Continue...

Josh Feldman is a writer and podcast DJ from a suburb outside of Washington, D.C. On his podcast, The Sideswipe he talks about the music industry and other occurrences in the entertainment world. Holla Back at Josh on twitter @Jazzyfeldzle. Music fans across the U.S. celebrated a great holiday, Record Store Day, last saturday. The “other day which will live in infamy” started in 2007. It was no surprise that an employee of an independent record store in the New England region, Chris Brown (no relation to the pop star) created the day with a group of his employees as a way to commemorate the unique culture which exists in hundreds of independent record stores nationwide. The holiday is always celebrated on the third saturday of April. Continue...

Shores Rock the Glasslands
Josh Feldman is a writer and podcast DJ from a suburb outside of Washington, D.C. On his podcast, The Sideswipe he talks about the music industry and other occurrences in the entertainment world. Holla Back at Josh on twitter @Jazzyfeldzle. Bursting through the seams of lo-fi rock is Holiday Shores, a quartet from “The Sunshine State” of Florida. Last week the group performed at Brooklyn’s own Glasslands Gallery and recently released their first album, “Columbus’d The Whim.” The name Holiday Shores is inspired by the street where lead singer, Nathan Pemberton grew up. At age 22, Pemberton provides a perfect set of pipes to harmonize with the rest of the band. As a whole Holiday Shores has been compared to the talents of Fleet Foxes and many other lo-fi indie rockers. Continue...

Zing! Zang! Protest “The Greatest Show On Earth”
Josh Feldman is a writer and podcast DJ from a suburb outside of Washington, D.C. On his podcast, The Sideswipe he talks about the music industry and other occurrences in the entertainment world. Holla Back at Josh on twitter @Jazzyfeldzle. “Hey Kids! Come here and look at this.” Should this be the one thing you want your children to hear when you take them to the “Greatest Show on Earth”? I didn’t think so. This phrase reminds me of a scene that might happen if I was to take my kids down the sketchiest street in the world. A few weeks ago while I was home on spring break, I went downtown with a couple of my friends. We rode the metro with full intentions on going museum hopping all day (which was the perfect cure after going bar hopping the night before on St. Patty’s). While flipping through the [...] Continue...

Chester Bay Wipes Out Competition Nationwide
Josh Feldman is a writer and podcast DJ from a suburb outside of Washington, D.C. On his podcast, The Sideswipe he talks about the music industry and other occurrences in the entertainment world. Holla back at Josh on twitter @Jazzyfeldzle. A small band turns big with Chester Bay. With a name inspired by a small body of water in the Midwest, Chester Bay did exactly what a body of water would do in the Midwest: they became great. The band is comprised of four natives from the midwest who play like they were born to rock. I first found their music when my podcast, The Sideswipe, was in need of some creative push. After they sent me a song titled, “Get Free,” I could sense something in Chester Bay. I had a feeling that someday these men would be great. Continue...
