#musicmonday: Katy Perry – “Teenage Dreams”
This week the Twitosphere and blogosphere seem to be blowing up about this song, so that might be part of the reason for this week’s #musicmonday. The other part that it actually is a good song. The title track off of her upcoming album, “Teenage Dreams” is also the follow up single to “California Gurls.” It would appear that Katy Perry has another huge album on her hands, a perfect follow up to the deceptively good “One Of The Boys.” Continue...

#musicmonday: Biffy Clyro – “Captain”
As soon as I heard, Scottish alternative band, Biffy Clyro’s new(ish) album “Only Revolution”, I knew I had to feature a song in this #musicmonday spot. You may have heard, but not known, “Many a Horror” in the TV commercial trailer for the upcoming “Charlie St. Cloud,” a song also from this album. But there was one song that stood above the rest. That song is “Captain,” and this week’s #musicmonday. Continue...

#musicmonday: Cheryl Cole – “Fight For This Love”
If you read any entertainment headlines last week you may have seen this singers name pop up. The English pop princess may have almost died after contracting malaria. Of course this isn’t the only thing Cheryl Cole is known for, but this is part of the reason why i chose “Fight For This Love” as my #musicmonday this week. The other reason is that it was featured in DJ Earworm’s multi-Top 40 mashup “Like, OMG Baby” that’s been playing on the New York radio stations recently. Continue...

#musicmoday: Hockey – “Song Away”
The Who and What: It was late last year when an album from a band i’d never heard made their way into my eardrums. This very same album turned out to be one of my favorite albums of the year. The album was “Mind Chaos,” and the band was “Hockey” out of Portland, Oregon. The album was different from anything that I was listening to at the time, with loads of energy and a uniqueness that set it apart from everything else. There were many songs that I liked when I first listened to it, some shined brightly at first but have since been eclipsed by a modified set, of which this week’s #musicmonday, “Song Away” leads the pack. It was the song I enjoyed most when i went with The Truth About Music to go see Hockey perform at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City this March. They [...] Continue...

#musicmoday: Will Young – “Leave Right Now”
Dave Hitchings is English born, Hartford located music and tech blogger and web developer. You can follow him on Twitter at @davehitchings. The What: This weeks #musicmonday was actually inspired by a different song. When I first began hearing Drake’s single “Find Your Love” on the radio I had, at that point, no idea who was the singer behind it. One option I contested was this singer, Will Young, feasibly because he had been featured all season on American Idol. I thought perhaps, 8 years after winning England’s Pop Idol, he may have made it to these shores. While he may not have made it to radio airplay, Will Young is a talented artist and worthy of being this weeks #musicmonday. Continue...

#musicmoday: K’Naan – “Wavin’ Flag (Celebration Mix)”
Dave Hitchings is English born, Hartford located music and tech blogger and web developer. You can follow him on Twitter at @davehitchings. The What: A little over a year ago the iTunes Free Single of the Week was a song by a guy named K’Naan called “Bang Bang”. The song featured Adam Levine from Maroon 5, and is perhaps one of my favorite free downloads I’ve ever received from the iTunes program. From that same album (“Troubadour”) comes another song, this one though selected for even greater merits–the Official Coca-Cola World Cup 2010 song. The song was also recorded separately for Haiti relief earlier this year. Continue...

Un-#musicmoday: The Songs You’ll Be Sick Of…
Dave Hitchings is English born, Hartford located music and tech blogger and web developer. You can follow him on Twitter at @davehitchings. As I missed my regular #musicmonday column this week, I thought I’d supplement the Truth About Music with a post based on the #musicmonday format. It’s summer, that means time off, road trips and lots of radio listening. The problem? Radio stations have no idea what they do to songs that they play too much. And summer songs seem to bear the brunt of this assault. Think Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours” or Jordin Sparks’ “Battlefield.” Continue...

#musicmoday: Florence + The Machine – “You’ve Got The Love”
Dave Hitchings is English born, Hartford located music and tech blogger and web developer. You can follow him on Twitter at @davehitchings. The Who: With a huge voice, Florence Welch has guided her band Florence + The Machine from a position of relative unknown to a position of chart toping success. She may not have done it completely herself–BBC Introducing had a big hand in it–but she and her band are no less deserving of this success. In the span of a year, Florence + The Machine went from playing small London venues to playing the biggest of festivals including Glastonbury and Reading and Leeds (2 years running, 2008/2009). Continue...

#musicmoday: Chiddy Bang – “Opposite of Adults (Kids)”
Dave Hitchings is English born, Hartford located music and tech blogger and web developer. You can follow him on Twitter at @davehitchings. The What: A short #musicmonday this week as i dont have a lot of time to delve into the song. But it is a song I’ve been wanting to do since I began writing these columns. This weeks #musicmonday is Chiddy Bang’s “Opposite of Adults (Kids)”. I first heard this single in the early days of this year, back around the beginning of January–I was immediately addicted. Harris, from this site, then came back from SXSW music raving about this rap band he had seen there. They are on the cusp of breaking and this could be a big summer hit. The Who: “Opposite of Adults (Kids)” comes off of Chiddy Bang’s first album “The Swelly Express.” The album itself is a narrative of how Chiddy Bang got [...] Continue...

#musicmoday: Every Avenue – “Tell Me I’m A Wreck”
Dave Hitchings is English born, Hartford located music and tech blogger and web developer. You can follow him on Twitter at @davehitchings. The Who: Two Friday’s ago Every Avenue opened the AP Tour in New Haven, a night that included The Cab, acoustic performances from Cartel and We the Kings and was headlined by NeverShoutNever. While the band has been around for 7 years now, I only came to know them last year with the release of “Picture Perfect.” From that moment I liked them, and they were part of the reason for battling a bus fire on I-91 to get there. “Tell Me I’m a Wreck” is this weeks #musicmonday. Continue...
