Harris’ Song of the Week: I Just Wanna Run by The Downtown Fiction
It took nearly eight days but I finally found a song deserving of my last song of the week in July. Sitting down to watch the season premeire of “Jersey Shore” I was greeted with an amazing music interface by MTV which allows you to see what songs are playing during the episode. An entire season of watching the show online took that interactivity away from me. Continue...

#musicmonday: Katy Perry – “Teenage Dreams”
This week the Twitosphere and blogosphere seem to be blowing up about this song, so that might be part of the reason for this week’s #musicmonday. The other part that it actually is a good song. The title track off of her upcoming album, “Teenage Dreams” is also the follow up single to “California Gurls.” It would appear that Katy Perry has another huge album on her hands, a perfect follow up to the deceptively good “One Of The Boys.” Continue...

The Truth About Inception
Going in with extremely high hopes for one of the summers biggest movies, I was setting myself up for disappointment. Luckily, I was floored by the work of Christopher Nolan, Leonardo Dicaprio and a group of unsung actors who have made “Inception” a winner. Although it’s been said in many reviews before, a key element to this movie are the stunning visuals. In a period of time dominated by 3-D, Nolan and company were able to blow us away with visuals so epic and twisted that you were left in a constant state of awe. There were certain shots in this movie that now, one day later, are still sticking in my head. The way that they framed an elevator shaft during a zero gravity sequence, the way that a mirror can shatter from just a slight touch. These simple events were put to the silver screen perfectly. One thing that [...] Continue...

Memories of SXSW 2010 Coming Front & Center
Here’s a quick thought about a particular band I remember hearing at SXSW. On my final night in Austin, I recall standing outside of the Billboard Bungalow with the temperatures dipping below forty degrees waiting for a few late night bands to come on. Standing next to Bill Werde, Billboard’s Executive Editor, I recall him leaning into me right as a pair of musicians took the stage and saying “these guys are going to be huge this year…” Although they got off to a slow start, I was quickly blown away by remixes of Passion Pit’s “Truth” and MGMT’s “Kids.” Chiddy Bang was able to provide the crowd with a huge influx of energy despite the near freezing temperatures and late night hour. One this is for sure, Chiddy Bang has made a splash in the pop world with “Opposite of Adults” and as Werde said, “…these guys are going [...] Continue...

Harris’ Song of the Week: Clap Your Hands by Sia
This song hit my like a brick wall. Stemming from Australia, Sia is a singer songwriter who has had marginal success around the world. Although I had never listened to her music, I had certainly heard of her before this single. What makes a song like this great is that for the first minute you can’t tell if the verse is listenable. It’s on the second run through the verse after you’ve heard the chorus that this song really gets going. Continue...

#musicmonday: Biffy Clyro – “Captain”
As soon as I heard, Scottish alternative band, Biffy Clyro’s new(ish) album “Only Revolution”, I knew I had to feature a song in this #musicmonday spot. You may have heard, but not known, “Many a Horror” in the TV commercial trailer for the upcoming “Charlie St. Cloud,” a song also from this album. But there was one song that stood above the rest. That song is “Captain,” and this week’s #musicmonday. Continue...

Harris’ Song of the Week: “Perfect Situation” by Weezer
*Although this song might seem random, I’m photographing the band at Foxwoods in Connecticut tonight making it relevant* As a child of the ’90s, I’ll always have a special connection with four bands. Those bands in chronological order are Nirvana, Green Day, Blink 182 and Weezer. Despite my late arrival to the Weezer train, I have caught up quickly and they are a great source of personal inspiration (musically) and one of the greatest bands out there today. Continue...

Are A Rocket To The Moon the Largest Warped Tour Snub?
The Truth About Music’s first ever Van Warped Tour experience was a blur. There were tons of bands, tons of people and most importantly, tons of music!! It was interesting to note which bands were playing on the various stages. Bands like The Cab, Sum 41, The All American Rejects and Motion City Soundtrack played some of the larger stages while relative unknowns like Breathe Electric and We Are The In Crowd played the smaller stages. There was one band missing from both of these places. A Rocket To The Moon have enjoyed immense success following the release of their album “On Your Side” which featured the smash single “Like We Used To.” Despite having one of the hottest songs in the country (#25 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart) and one of the hottest rock albums of the summer (currently #82 on the Billboard 200), the band finds itself playing acoustic shows [...] Continue...
