Glee Continues To Dominate, Are The Actors Paid To Sing?
Over the last year, America has become infatuated with Fox’s “Glee.” A show about being an awkward, out of place student in high school, “Glee” not only dominates its time slot on television but also has become one of the top selling albums of 2010. Last week the franchise released its fourth installment of it’s physical albums titled “Glee: The Music, Vol. 3 Showstoppers” which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200. With a revolutionary show comes a revolutionary set of rules for the cast members involved in “Glee.” One question that has not been answered is how much money the cast of “Glee” is being paid. Of course these kids (and some adults) are paid by Fox as actors but my question lies in the music. As the actors in the show, their voices are represented on each of the shows top selling albums, singles and EP’s. Continue...

Harris’ Song of the Week: “The Perfect Mistake” by Cartel
After seeing this band a few weeks ago during the AP Tour in New Haven, I realized how good they really are. With a great melodic sound, Cartel is a band that I wish I had been intersted in earlier in my life. This week’s song of the week comes from the band’s latest album “Cycles” which came out in October 2009. The song itself was first released as a single in February but didn’t really take off until the warmth of spring hit. Now, with summer right around the corner, this song will certainly make a run at being one of the stand out alternative rock songs of this season. What makes this song great is its old school feel. Even though you quickly grasp the easily identified vocals of Will Pugh, the song has a sound that was present in alternative rock years before the band’s debut in [...] Continue...

The Truth About the American Idol Finale
I have something to admit. Over the past week I became completely disinterested in the season finale of “American Idol.” I’m not sure if it was the lack of talent present within this season’s singers or if it was the lackluster performers left at this late stage in the competition. The two contestants left in the competition took the stage last night in what was an example of David and Goliath. David is represented by Krystal Bowersox. Undoubtedly one of the most talented performers the show had ever featured, her shortcomings are in her style. She is everything that “American Idol” isn’t. While Idol tries to craft pop stars, Bowersox looks to have her dreams locked on becoming a traditional feminist singer songwriter. There is nothing wrong with this goal, but let’s face it. This isn’t what we want out of our “American Idol.” On the other side of the [...] Continue...

The Truth About Music Radar: May 24th, 2010
It’s been almost one month since our last music radar. At the beginning of May we told you about a general lack of new music in the marketplace. Now as we approach summer and the first day of June, the tide has changed and new music is streaming from every corner of the pop music world. This week is no exception. First up this week is the self titled album from The Stone Temple Pilots. After an extended break up, the band has returned with a plan to dominate the progressive rock music world once again. For my money, I’ll take Scott Weiland joining forces with Slash in Velvet Revolver but a reunited STP will make for some great rock and roll headlines over the next year. Check out Robert’s review of the album here. Continue...

#musicmoday: Florence + The Machine – “You’ve Got The Love”
Dave Hitchings is English born, Hartford located music and tech blogger and web developer. You can follow him on Twitter at @davehitchings. The Who: With a huge voice, Florence Welch has guided her band Florence + The Machine from a position of relative unknown to a position of chart toping success. She may not have done it completely herself–BBC Introducing had a big hand in it–but she and her band are no less deserving of this success. In the span of a year, Florence + The Machine went from playing small London venues to playing the biggest of festivals including Glastonbury and Reading and Leeds (2 years running, 2008/2009). Stone Temple Pilots Self Titled Album Out Tomorrow
Apparently when the Deleo brothers come calling, Scott Weiland turns off the douchebag in a cop hat routine and realizes there’s one job he’s better at then any odd Hollywood fashion rock thing he was doing: singing for Stone Temple Pilots. Face it, Velvet Revolver sucked. I cannot fathom how millions of people bought into a faux Guns and Roses band with him singing. Either way, the good part is that his tenure is over and he’s back in the loving embrace of the family of weirdo’s who fully understand that their singer is a jackass who will relapse at one time and will act erratically which will likely result in handcuffs and possibly a cavity search. But, the good news is he’ll do it while rocking everyone within 100 miles’ faces off. On their first album in almost 10 years, STP hasn’t lost anything from the time spent away. Continue...

Songs In My Head: “Like We Used To” by A Rocket To The Moon
Over the last few weeks we have seen a clear trend in upcoming artists in pop. Starting with Mayday Parade, this summers big alternative acts are now becoming clear as their radio singles hit mainstream radio. One of my favorite songs in this genre comes from A Rocket To The Moon who have spent the last few years opening for bands such as Cute Is What We Aim For, Secondhand Serenade and The Cab. “Shrek Forever After” Works While 3D Does Not
This was a first for me. Not only was I attending a movie premiere at 10 A.M., it was the first movie I would ever see in theaters in 3D (that’s right kids, I didn’t see “Avatar” in 3D). Three years after “Shrek The Third,” this new (and final) chapter in the series traces the story backwards. You essentially find out what would have happened in the first story if the character Shrek (Mike Meyers) was never born. Although it seemed like a cheesy story to tell, the writers pulled it off, introducing a slew of new characters to help move the storyline forward. The largest addition to the cast was Walt Dohm, a veteran Hollywood voice actor who played Rumpelstiltskin. Rumpel was essentially a witch who traded in black magic. He would grant wishes to people while trying benefit from their desperation. This character was extremely well written and created a [...] Continue...
