Apple’s iPad Launches New Trends In Media Consumption
Every single review I’ve read about the iPad has been oddly similar. Each one calls it a revolutionary product and most predict that the next generations will far exceed our wildest expectations. With future generations of the product still at least a year away, I thought it would be nice to look at not only what this product does well, but how it has forever changed the way we consume media. Picking up the iPad for the first time, I was initially surprised at how heavy it was. That line of thinking was quickly put to rest as I turned it on and began flying through the various screens of the product. I couldn’t connect it to my computer fast enough. It was a bare canvas and I wanted to fill it with my music, videos and pictures. The first main drawbacks for the device are the apps designed for [...] Continue...

Shinedown Performs Intimate, Acoustic Show on Easter
Two nights ago Hartford was treated to a special Easter Sunday event. While most of the town celebrated the night with great food and candy, a lucky 400 were packed into the upper level of Up Or On The Rocks near Union Station. With very little publicity, the radio station WCCC decided to host the band in a very intimate acoustic show. After a long wait, the crowd was finally shuffled upstairs where the nightclub had been transformed into a venue. After introducing the band, the WCCC crew stepped aside, leaving the crowd and Shinedown alone for a very intimate forty-five minute show. Over the past two years, the band has grown dramatically in size and today are at the forefront of the hard rock/pop genre in the United States. Performing at Webster Theater about a year ago, this was the bands first trip back to Hartford since that sold [...] Continue...

iTunes Free Single of the Week: Julieta Venegas
Download this weeks free single from iTunes here: “Bien O Mal” by Julieta Venegas iTunes generally releases a few songs for free each week. For this column, we always focus on the main free single of the week. I was shocked to find out that this weeks single was a Mexican artist and her song was entirely in spanish. Despite the language barrier, this song is actually brilliant. It has an acoustic groove that reminds me of KT Tungstall. If you can put the lyrics aside (unless you speak fluent spanish), the melody is very pleasing on the ears. Continue...

The Truth About Music Radar: April 6th, 2010
The NCAA Tournament now over and Major League Baseball filling the air with summer, it’s time to take a look at what the first week of April has to offer the music world. In a week that doesn’t see many major releases, one stands out above the rest. Slash will debut his solo project, leaving Velvet Revolver as a fading memory. The famed Guns and Roses guitarist was incredible as a part of that super group and I hope that his self titled debut is more of the same. Screeching chords, fast solos and driving beats could make this aging artist relevant once more. Continue...

Train Pulls Back Into The Station
After a three year hiatus, Train is back in the game as of last August, and they are back in a double platinum way. With the release of their first single since 2006, Train’s “Hey, Soul Sister” is topping out iTunes sales this week, and has been awarded Double Platinum Status by RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) after selling 2.5 million digital downloads. I’m writing this article not because I’m a fan of Train, although it is a really good and catchy song, but, because I want to show how just 30 seconds of airtime can take a band that is really only known for one song (“Drops of Jupiter“), and coming off a three year hiatus, and put them right back on top, at least for the time being. I’m talking about the Samsung 3D TV adds that feature “Hey, Soul Sister” (yea the one with the aquarium [...] Continue...

#musicmoday: Miike Snow – “Animal”
Dave Hitchings is English born, Hartford located music/tech blogger and web developer. You can follow him on Twitter @davehitchings. The Who: This week’s #musicmonday, and the song I haven’t been able to get out of my head all week, is from Swedish producer team Miike Snow. Formed in 2007, Miike Snow put out their first official, self-titled, album in 2009. Miike Snow is comprised of songwriter Andrew Wyatt and producers Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg. The What: To me, it seems difficult as to where exactly I first heard the song, “Animal.” It was officially released as a single back in February, but that doesn’t necessarily mean I’ve heard it on the radio. Since its release, it has been rolling through the backtracks of multiple TV shows; most recently it was played during the last few minutes of a recent episode of “Cougar Town.” “Animal,” was the first single off of [...] Continue...
