The Songs in my Head: Weezer
To be honest, since the release of “Pinkerton” when I was eight years old, no other Weezer album has cut the cheese for me. I know, I’m too young to appreciate Weezer but truth is, I’ve done my homework. My favorites are “Pinkerton” and “The Blue Album” a pure masterful album. There were some great singles from “The Green Album” and one amazing single from “Make Believe” (“Perfect Situation” is one of my favorite songs to date). “The Red Album” was a complete disaster for me but finally the page has been turned and we can look forward to a brand new Weezer album “Raditude” due out this fall. After hearing the single “(If You’re Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To” during their tour with Blink 182 this summer I knew it would be a good album. This song in short is the best thing to [...] Continue...

PC’s, An Inability to Get Small Where It Counts
Sitting in the newspaper office this week, our Sports Editor Zach brought in his brand new laptop. To my dismay it was a PC. The preface of the conversation that followed occurred simply because of this statement, “check out my new laptop.” Here’s my problem with the entire PC laptop market. Why are they all so damn thick? I understand that it is more cost effective to go thick, making all of the internal components larger and cheaper. My issue with this idea is that Apple can’t possibly be almost four years ahead. When we compared my three-and-a-half year old Macbook Pro to his brand spanking new Lenovo laptop, my Apple was still about a quarter inch thinner. Although this doesn’t seem like a lot, it is a significant size difference. So over the past three years, why haven’t the entire PC market found a way to make their computers [...] Continue...

The Truth About "Jennifer’s Body"
So, what did you think of “Jennifer’s Body?” No really, I need your opinion because I’ve had such a hard time forming my own. Yesterday sitting in my local movie theater I was a little scared, a little interested, and at times, a little bored. There is no doubt that they did an excellent job in shock horror which makes you cringe or jump our of your seat quite a few times. Director Karyn Kusama did one thing really great. She put her actors into situations in which they could really act. Although many people get on Megan Fox for her ‘idiot girlfriend’ role in the Transformers saga, this is the only time you have seen her. How can you judge a character by her first book? Fox played a terrifying person in the movie and pulled it off pretty well. For her first lead role, I would say she [...] Continue...

Exclusive Interview With Miss Li, Featured in iPod Nano Commercial
After hearing Miss Li and her song “Bourgeois Shangri-La” I thought it would be fun to find out her reaction to the early success of Apple’s latest marketing campaign. The song which was featured as my song of the week this past week is easily remembered and hummed along to and we discussed her latest album and her plans for a United States appearance in the coming months. Top Five Songs of the Week: 9/20/09-9/26/09
Songs of the Week: 9/20/09-9/26/09 “Bourgeois Shangri-La” by Miss Li: After an interview and a song of the week nod, this song was certainly my most listened to song. “Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong” by Spin Doctors: Taking this one back to the turn of the millennium, this is a classic can’t miss jam similar to Blues Traveler. “In This City” by Iglu & Hartly: Although it’s been out for a few weeks, it just occurred to me how great a song this is and I listened to it enough this week to know for sure. “Medicate” by AFI: Learning I would soon be attending an AFI show I thought it would be smart to get familiar with the lead single from their forthcoming album. “Old White Lincoln” by The Gaslight Anthem: Honestly, the only reason I listened to this one this much this week was because I was sure [...] Continue...

Harris’ Song of the Week: Bourgeois Shangri-La by Miss Li
Fine, go ahead, start to hate me now. Just because I love Apple and all of their fantastic products doesn’t mean I have to choose their songs for my song of the week. The company just happens to have their finger on the pulse of the pop community. Any song that ends up in a commercial (especially an iPod commercial) automatically experiences great success. Regardless of which way the process works, this weeks song is simply fantastic. I’ll have to be honest, I had to do some extensive research to actually figure out who sang the song and then who Miss Li actually was. Stemming from Sweden, the pop singer has had songs features in Showtimes “Weeds” and ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy.” Regardless of her status before September 9th, 2009, rest assure that now she will gain a tremendous amount of fame with the iPod Nano add being played dozens of [...] Continue...

Boys Like Girls Release First Album in Three Years
After one of the most remarkable stretches in recent history, Boys Like Girls are finally back with a brand new album. Their 2006 self titled release put out four rock solid singles while helping the group attain an incredible amount of popularity. What made the band unique was the quality of the debut album. Often times, bands will rush into the first album because of early success of a single. “Boys Like Girls” was an album that not only got rave reviews, but was fully embraced by a strong fan base. Three years later they are back with “Love Drunk” and although the sound has changed slightly, the idea remains the same. Almost every song on the sophomore release has a uniqueness, giving it that single quality. The first two songs are very similar as they provide a slightly more electric sound found more commonly in pop music since 2006. [...] Continue...

Jay-Z Back With A Vengeance (And Plenty of Friends)
The man who can never and will never retire, Jay-Z is back with yet another album following his retirement in 2003. “The Blueprint 3” is the sequel to the previously released albums “The Blueprint” and “The Blueprint 2: The Gift & The Curse” which came out in 2001 and 2002 respectively. After dropping this album into iTunes, the first thing you will notice is the amount of guest performers Jay brought in. Almost every track features guests from Kanye West to Kid Cudi, these extra performers really bring a lot to the table. Leading off “The Blueprint 3” is “What We Talkin’ About” a solid opener, introducing the sound you hear throughout this album. Following the opener is a string of singles. After “Thank You” a mediocre song to say the least, is the amazing string of “D.O.A.” “Run This Town” and “Empire State of Mind.” These three singles create [...] Continue...

Random Thoughts About ‘Jennifer’s Body’
I’m very confused. A few months ago when I first saw the movie poster for Megan Fox’s new movie, it looked like an attempt to capture whatever it was she brought to the table in “Transformers.” It wasn’t going to be good, it was going to show off her body, and make millions of dollars because guys like me went to see it. After seeing the trailer I was even more convinced of this line of thought and fully prepared to go see it anyway. Turns out I was very wrong. The reviews are in and for some reason Rolling Stone and CNN are both giving this movie a positive spin. In my wildest dreams I couldn’t of imagined this but in a sense I guess I could of been judging a book by it’s cover. Is Fox truly a good actress? Is Diablo Cody, writer of “Juno” more than [...] Continue...
