The Truth About "Inglourious Basterds"
There is only one question you have to ask yourself, to Quentin or not to Quentin. People go into movies such as “Inglourious Basterds,” thinking it’s a standard comedy with some violence thrown in. People who are not expecting classic Tarantino beware, this movie is just that. From the director that brought you “Reservoir Dogs,” “Kill Bill,” and “Pulp Fiction,” comes something I’ve always wanted from him, a war movie. No director or writer does blood the way he does. It’s not about the gore but it’s about the imagery that goes alongside the blood and guts. As you have undoubtedly seen in the trailers for this movie, ‘The Basterds,” carve a swastika into some Nazis foreheads. The final scene of the movie shows an up-close depiction of this happening. If you squirm, you will squirm and if you don’t like blood, maybe this isn’t the movie for you. Of [...] Continue...

The Songs in my Head: Jack Penate
I’ve said it so many times it makes my head hurt. On a Sunday evening I put on Jack Penate’s album “Matinee,” and was once again reminded how great this album is. I would go as far as to say it is one of the best albums recorded after the turn of the millennium. Your thinking, how can an album be so great if I haven’t heard of it? I respond with, ‘stop complaining, find the album and then you can be in the know.’ So here’s what you should do. For the first time in a few years (for many of you) head to Amazon and spend the $6 or so that it will take to bring this album home. Let me know what you think and help me bring more people onto the ship. Buy Jack Penate’s “Matinee,” on Amazon Continue...

With Blink 182 tearing across the country on their first tour in five years it came to my attention that they have a number of great albums. Below I have rated my favorites and I want to know which one you like the best, click on the poll at the right to vote. Three People, Three Albums, Five Years Later
As bands develop their sound changes, their members change and multiply, relationships grow weaker and stronger. One thing has not changed, Blink 182 still has the same sound, the same three members who made the band we know today. Onstage they appear just as fun and crazy as they were back in 1992 when “Cheshire Cat,” was recorded and Mark and Tom were in their early twenties. Although my love for Blink has always been strong their lack of touring over their hiatus made it impossible to see them live. When the reunion tour was announced it was a must, I had to be there. As the sun set on beautiful Jones Beach in Long Island, New York the stage was set. After openers Chester French gave a solid performance, crowd favorite locals Taking Back Sunday gave a less than amazing set which featured more microphone swinging than great singing. [...] Continue...

Harris’ Song of the Week: New Perspective by Panic! at the Disco
The first thing I would like to note is the title of this post. Each week I have a song of the week but this week’s song features something that most don’t, an exclamation point! For those of you do no know Panic dropped the “!” from their last album “Pretty Odd,” but it has re-appeared and looks to be here to stay. This weeks song is the last song featuring all of the original members of Panic as Ryan Ross and Jon Walker left the band earlier this summer. With that in mind we have to wonder will things change moving forward? The bands main stay Brendon Urie is still there and that is what really matters. “New Perspective,” is a truly fantastic song that I didn’t like the first time I heard it. It truly grows on you quick. The song belonged on “Pretty Odd,” but there is [...] Continue...

Remembering Michael Jackson and Free Willy
This summer music lost one of it’s most inspirational and revolutionary icons. Michael Jackson meant as much to music as any other pop icon of the last 100 years. According to a survey I just made up three-fifths of people who read The Truth About Music are considered 90′s kids. Born in the late 80′s we grew up with Green Day, No Doubt and about 300 one hit wonder bands (anyone remember Evan & Jaron?). During this decade Michael Jackson’s presence was underlying. He had already released “Thriller,” and the moonwalk had been copied by countless bands. Any true kid from the 90′s remembers 1993 for one particular movie, “Free Willy.” During the credits of this movie Michael Jackson produced and performed “Will You Be There,” which was the theme song. The song went on to win at the 1994 MTV Movie Awards for “Best Song in a Movie,” and [...] Continue...

The Truth About Music Radar: August 25th, 2009
With the last new music report of the summer months comes one of the most anticipated albums of the summer (if your into british pop). The Arctic Monkeys will release “Humbug,” their third album after a highly successful stint promoting “My Favourite Worst Nightmare,” for the past two years. The best of their two previous releases was the afore mentioned album and this gives me hope that this album will be another step forward for this band from the United Kingdom. Another band set to release their third studio album are Aussie rockers JET. Their latest album “Shaka Rock,” will hope to catch fire similar to their debut album “Get Born,” and the hit single “Are You Gonna Be My Girl.” The first single from “Shaka Rock,” “She’s A Genius,” has shown some promise as it begins to appear on rock charts. This week also features a new release from [...] Continue...

Music Video of the Week: "Crying Lightning," by Arctic Monkeys
On the eve of their latest albums release I checked out their video for the first single. My first opinion of the song; Arctic goes emo. Regardless I continued watching the video and really enjoyed it. It was very dark, very twisted and oddly comforting all at the same time. The the band performing on a boat in the middle of some rough seas they just keep performing despite the inclement whether that surrounds them. I won’t ruin what happens at the end but it was a pretty creative way to shoot a music video although I can’t garuntee that old school Monkeys fans will enjoy the song itself. Either way check it out for yourself and let me know what you think. Arctic Monkeys – New Music – More Music Videos Continue...

The Songs in my Head: Party In The USA
I know what your going to say. How could I do this? Well the song in my head right now is the latest from Miley Cyrus. The youngest popiest thing in pop is at it again and for the first time in her young career, I like one of her songs! “Party in the USA,” is perfectly cheesy and has a hook that forces you to sing along. None of her previous songs have done anything for me but maybe this one will change my attitude towards the teen popstress. Check out this unofficial video for the song on YouTube Continue...
