A Fun Experiment
This is one of the posts that just comes out of right field but is fun to try. The idea of panning is that some sounds come out of one speaker, and other sounds come out of another speaker. When you isolate these sounds in headphones (especially really good sounding headphones) you can really hear the differences in sound. My personal choice for headphones are a pair of Shure sound isolation headphones. They cost me a pretty penny but are very versatile. When these headphones are in, you can’t hear someone yell right next to you (a little scary of your walking in a city). Here’s what to do. Find the best pair of headphones that you can get your hands on. Download “Play it Loud,” by MxPx. Give it a listen. The first three seconds or so of this song mess with your brain as the opening sound is [...] Continue...

Hardest I’ve Ever Laughed (at a video game)
Anyone who knows me well eneough has come to a few conclusions: 1. I’m an asshole2. I’m very opinionated3. I hate online video’s (such as Youtube) If you know these three things then your probably on the right track. It rarely comes a time when I break the shackles, and conform with society, laughing along with these “funny” online video’s. The time has come for me to begin to laugh at these video’s and I have found a perfect place to start. Dave from Mercury Studios told me about Zero Punctuation, a series of online video game reviews by Ben Croshaw. These video’s go beyond the normal reaches of online video’s. They are not only funny, but extremely practical video game reviews in the form of video’s themselves. Each week (on Wednesday) he releases a new review and are generally laugh out loud (lol for those of you so inclined) [...] Continue...

Harris’ Song of the Week: Jane by The Loved Ones
Every once and a while you have to kick it old school. You take a few steps backward and remind yourself how you got to where you are. For this weeks song, I have decided to shave a few years off, back to 2006 with a band that I consider to be the definition of today’s punk scene. You hear a lot of music, but rarely do you hear a band, and better yet a collection of Albums that kicks your ass as much as these guys do. The song “Jane,” from the album Keep Your Heart, was considered the first single and is a crowd favorite song. In the spirit of the band it is a kicking anthem that makes even the most docile human beings want to punch someone in the face. In fact I will go ahead and say that if you are preparing for a fight [...] Continue...

Bruce Springsteen at the Super Bowl
During what was for the most part, a lackluster first half of football, most people seemed to be anxiously anticipating the halftime show. This yearly spectacle us generally taken on by a veteran of the music industry, or sometimes multiple artists. This year was the year of Bruce Springsteen. He broke many touring records and played an incredible amount of sell out shows all across the United States. The boss did not disappoint on the big stage, putting on a rocking show. For one night, New Jerseyights united with the rest of the world, and we all got a glimpse of what makes Bruce an incredible performer. This got me thinking. Who would you choose to perform at the super bowl in 2010. I know that’s a long ways off but I have a short list and I will post the list in a poll. Let’s help choose next years [...] Continue...
