Everyone Loves Free Music (Yes Even Me)
Anyone who knows me personally knows my views on illegally downloading music. All of these people also know that I have one exception to the rule. If the music is not made available to me to buy, then I am ok with downloading it illegally. On this note I have some excellent news for Ben Folds fans. As many of you may know his new album, “Way to Normal,” was preceded by a planned “Leak,” of the album. This “Leak,” was initiated by Ben himself and consisted of fake tracks, which many fans believed to be the real tracks. Although this was an odd turn of events it was a really unique way to draw attention to the band. As a big Ben Folds fan I have spent the past few hours trying to find the “fake,” album because after hearing some of these songs live, I wanted to have [...] Continue...

A Writers Rant on Reading (cynical rant)
Writing has always been one of my many passions, along with the drums and baseball. In high school there was something about putting fingers to key’s that relaxed me. I have written things that have made others call me everything from a communist to a saint and thats really what does it for me. Nothing gets me happier than when someone reads something I’ve written and tells me they loved it, or even better that they hated it and completely disagree. Many people assume that english is english is english, especially in high school and even the undergrad level in college. There are two separate entities involved in english, which so many people glance over. Reading and writing are two separate things and even though one may be a good writer, does not mean they have to be a good reader, or enjoy reading for that matter. I am the [...] Continue...

Sara Bareilles Live at Webster Theatre
Pulling out all the stops, Webster Theatre has had a fall full of great concerts. From Hanson, to All Time Low, Cobra Starship, to Matt Nathanson, they really have had a lot of fun at the historic venue. Last week that trend continued with Sara Bareilles. Sara Bareilles and some unfamiliar friends arrived in Hartford, on the final leg of their North American tour, before Sara and her band leave the openers at home, heading to Europe for some additional dates. Opening the show for Sara was a relatively unknown band named Raining Jane. Raining Jane, formed in 1999 in California by four woman, combine an interesting mix of pop, rock and folk, with some instruments that many people in the audience had never seen before. Their percussionist plays on a cajon, their bass player occasionally breaks out a sitar and one of the guitar players also jams out on [...] Continue...

Harris’ Song of the Week: Love Song by Sara Bareilles
As is almost always the case as you may of noticed by now, my song of the week once again comes from an artist that I saw this week. Although the review for it is not yet up, the picture are and let me tell you, Sara B. is not only really talented but she is gorgeous. In person she is truly amazing looking, and it also happens to be awesome that she rocks. Although I was pressured into picking a more b-side song, I can’t deny my true feelings. I really just love this song, which was the way almost all music fans were introduced to Sara about two years ago. Just in case you were not aware, which I wasn’t until just a few days ago, “Love Song,” was actually a free single of the week on iTunes back in June of 2007. Was anyone else aware of [...] Continue...

Favorite Artists A-Z
Just thought of playing a fun game. You should play along. Go through your music library (I’ll assume its your iTunes library) and pick your favorite artists for each letter of the alphabet (“The” can be eliminated). Also I have noted which letters were especially hard. Here goes nothing: AAC/DC BThe Beatles CCharlotte Sometimes DDropkick Murphy’s EEminem F (Very Hard)Fall Out Boy GGreen Day HHanson IThe Impossibles JJET KKanye West L (Very Hard)Lucky Boys Confusion MMaroon 5 N*NSYNC OO.K. Go PPanic at the Disco QQueen RReel Big Fish S (Very Hard)Streetlight Manifesto TTenacious D UUncle Kracker (Yes I hate U2 that much) VVan Halen W (Hard)The Who YYellowcard ZZolof The Rock and Roll Destroyer #3 Doors Down Notice that missing from this list is the X. There are no artists in my library with this as a starting letter. I am curious to know which letter is the hardest for [...] Continue...

My First Favorite Song
Think back, right now. Digg through your memory banks and think of the first song you heard and said (out loud or to yourself) “this is my favorite song.” I’m sure this exercise has the potential to get embarrassing but its fun, and really helps bring back old memories. I was driving in the car tonight when my song came pouring over “The Pulse,” (the Sirius station that plays 90′s music). The song, ‘Jumper’ by Third Eye Blind. I was driving with a fellow music lover and proceeded to explain the song to her as only someone who called it their first favorite could. I first heard this song back before MP3′s and even before CD’s and Wal-Mart’s ruled the music world. Back then you heard music in one of two places; the car radio or on your boom-box’s cassette player. Although I do not remember the first time I [...] Continue...
