Coming in 2009
I've written a lot this year about concerts, cd's and bands. It is now time to put 2008 in the past and look foreward to 2009. My question now is what are you looking forward to most in the new year. There are many new albums coming out from everyone from Panic at the Disco to Green Day to Boys Like Girls. All of these bands will be touring and will be availiable for your enjoyment. Also in 2009 we will have the reunion of No Doubt and of Led Zeppelin, minus Robert Plant. Of course there is much more to come, and I want to know what you are looking foreward to most in the upcoming year. Please use the comments and let me know your thoughts. Continue...

Best of 2008 Part III
In this section of best of, I want to focus on my favorite songs of 2008. I am a sucker for a good hook and riff and these are the songs that stood out in my head as being the best and brightest. 1. Time to Pretend by MGMTThis song was a tough call at #1 with some very tough competition, but looking back at the year 2008 no song was used in more mediums than this one. It was in commercials, all of America’s favorite TV shows and of course on every channel on FM and Sirius radio. I fell in love with this song early in the year as it invaded my ears with it’s catch melody’s. Furthermore, MGMT as a band deserved to be recognized in this #1 spot as they grew from local NYC act, into a national power-group. 2. Human by The KillersAlthough only being [...] Continue...

Best of 2008 Part II
In my best of 2008 part II we will take a look at my favorite concerts of 2008. This year I went to more concerts than any other year to date. I count about twenty concerts so far in 2008 and it is tough to pick my favorites. Here goes nothing. 1. Billy Joel at Shea StadiumThis year, although I want to a lot of concerts, but number one on the list is easy. Billy Joel performed at Shea Stadium (Home of my New York Mets) in what would be the final concert ever at the historic venue. It was great to see Billy at the place where Paul, John, Ringo and George had performed over 50 years earlier. This quickly moved close to the top of my favorite concerts ever, and easily sits atop of 2008. To read more about this click here 2. Maroon 5 at Jones BeachWhen [...] Continue...

Best of 2008 Part I
It’s that time of the year. Time to light christmas trees, make gingerbread cookies and make New Years resolutions for 2009. It is also time to look at the best performances, albums and songs of 2008. In part I we will look at my favorite albums of 2008. 1. “Pretty Odd,” by Panic at the DiscoAlthough it was tied for first in my readers poll, Panic at the Disco’s newest album “Pretty Odd,” is an incredible album that mixes old influences from The Beatles with their catchy songwriting. Brendon and Ryan both contribute vocals combined into what is now one of my favorite vocal performances. Panic’s unique vocal’s make them one of the more standout groups in the alternative scene today. During 2008 I was also lucky eneough to see them at Roseland Ballroom. For more about this concert click here 2. “Here We Stand,” by The FratellisThis year also [...] Continue...

Harris’ Song of the Week: I Wanna by The All American Rejects
Earlier in the week I reviewed THe All American Rejects new album “When the World Comes Down,” and I said that it was similar to their last album in that the singles would most likely be solid, but overall it dosen’t do it for me (as an album). Upon further review, my opinion has not changed in the least except for this song. For some reason this seemingly simple song has taken over my head. It is extremely catchy and has the ability to get stuck in your head for hours. There’s something that is really special about the song, and as I said previous it is a great way to open this album. Of course what makes it catchy are the lyrics, and the repeating chorus which simply is: “I wanna I wanna I wanna touch you and you wanna touch me too.” Like really?? These are the lyrics [...] Continue...

Season Pass
I got a recent email from Bob Lefsetz in which he discussed the idea of a season pass in the music industry. The way it would work is similar to the way it works in performing arts centers, disney world, and baseball stadiums. You would purchase a pass that gives you access to either all or some of the years performances. My question to you is as a concert goer, would this interest you? Let’s say you could pay $250 upfront to be guaranteed tickets to any five shows at your favorite venue over the course of a year. This would help build loyalty between fans and venues, and make venues careful to book a complete lineup of acts. Please click either ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to the right and let me know your thoughts. All American Rejects Continue There Legacy
The All American Rejects have always had something in common with each of there first few albums, a knack for writing hit singles. As I begin to listen to their newest release titled “When The World Comes Down,” (released today, Dec. 16th 2008) I am reminded that never has an AAR album stood out to me beyond the singles. To me this is one of those bands that never quite put together a good album, but instead spent time crafting some of my favorite singles of all time. The opening song on the album ‘I Wanna,’ is a great starter song but just five songs in I’m already a little bit over the album. As I said before AAR is at their best when performing hit singles and there is no exception here. ‘Gives You Hell,’ is the first single off of this album that is sure to produce up [...] Continue...
